Reminds me of February 11, 2003 when an extremely rare squall line barreled through during the afternoon.  The reason why it was extremely rare is that it was a convective squall line of snow.  I have never seen snow that heavy and visibility that low in my life.

EDIT: Back to work, the squall line on February 11, 2003 was associated with an arctic cold front.

Here is a radar image of the squall line as it barreled through.

Simply another awesome event. Was in DuPage County for that one. Hit right around dusk as I recall.

Just a little while ago. Still coming down moderately.

I love your yard!

APX issues SPS:

...ACCUMULATING SNOWFALL IN PARTS OF THE AREA TONIGHT...

THE CALENDAR MAY SAY MARCH BUT WINTER WILL MAKE A LATE SEASON

APPEARANCE TONIGHT IN THE FORM OF ACCUMULATING SNOW FOR PORTIONS

OF NORTHERN MICHIGAN.  WITH COLDER AIR SWEEPING INTO THE AREA AND

CROSSING THE RELATIVELY ICE FREE WATERS OF THE GREAT LAKES...LAKE

EFFECT SNOW SHOWERS WILL BE WIDESPREAD ALONG AND WEST OF

THE INTERSTATE 75 CORRIDOR.  A FEW BURSTS OF MODERATE SNOW ARE

LIKELY...WITH VISIBILITIES REDUCED AT TIMES TO LESS THAN 1 MILE.

EXPECT ACCUMULATIONS OF 2 TO 4 INCHES IN THE FAVORED WEST AND

NORTHWEST FLOW SNOW BELTS...WITH LIGHTER AMOUNTS FURTHER EAST.

WILL HAVE TO KEEP AN EYE ON HOW THIS EVOLVES...AS SOME POTENTIAL

FOR ADVISORY LEVEL SNOW. FOR NOW...HAVE ISSUED AN SPS AND POSTED

A WEB STORY HIGHLIGHTING 2-4 INCHES OF SNOW AND SLICK ROADS. WILL LET

THAT RIDE INTO THIS EVENING AND SEE HOW THINGS DEVELOP WITH

UPSTREAM ENERGY.

That system lead to 5" per hour snowfall rates here in West Michigan! A couple isolated 15" totals near the lake shore fell in less than 5 hours.  Multiple claps of thunder as well.

Thanks! Need a little ground cover on the berm yet, but otherwise that area is pretty much done.

Very nice.  I'm digging that pond...must have one!

Hop into that Excavator!

Snowing lightly now. Wind seems to kick up each time a snow squall hits. Probably 3/4" down.

This is about as bad as it can get in Northern Lower Michigan,...Still 60-115" in NWLM!

Last winter was the worst winter I have ever seen in my lifetime statewide. I drove through Gaylord at least 4 to 5 times last winter to get to the UP and each time there was less than 6 inches on the ground. I didn't even know that was possible until last winter.

IF the 0z Euro verified to a tee, like verbatim, for Sunday...it'd get LAF pretty close to normal season snowfall. Not counting on its solution of course, due to several factors, but one can dream...

If that verifies, that would be the biggest snowfall of the season.  I show around 1.5" of QPF on Sunday & Monday.  Not having access to pay maps or text output, it appears both surface and 850 temps would support snow from my observation.

Wunderground.com Euro maps are pretty weenie-ish. Probably couldn't draw up a better solution for us. :D

GGEM lends some support, but the GFS is pretty meh.
