Nice pics.  Definitely more snow up there than here.  Only patches left here.

Do you ever have problems with boatloads of mosquitoes with that pond being back there?

Not any worse then the next yard over. Once things thaw out I put an agitator in to stir up the water and a pellet that floats on top of the water that kills the mosquito larva. What's nice when it overflows like this, is all the leaves and crap that get washed in during the fall flows out down the hill. Otherwise I have to take a rake or pool net and fish out that debris.

Getting a light rain/snow mix now.

Ahh, sweet.

Many of the rivers around here are starting to flood.  The Rock just south of town is the highest I've seen it in a few years.  All last summer it was around 3-4', which is extremely low.  Up to 11' now, and is expected to crest at 15' in a few days.  If it were to reach 18-19' parts of Erie start to go under water.  I think it'd have to reach about 22-23' to reach here.

Well at least the melting will slow down now upstream in WI. Not much precip in the next week it looks like.

Flooding isn't an issue here, except basement related and once in a rare while - street flooding down the block.

Quite a few rivers recording very high levels. Nice cluster of black dots around Chicago - a lot of snowpack + Urban runoff is really boosting those stream levels fast.

A pond like that here would probably freeze solid.

Fish in there?

Not yet. It wasn't until late summer that it was actually finished. The pond is feed by ground water, which is about 50° so that keeps the water open underneath the ice. Last years drought really lowered it for awhile. I took the time to deepen a section, so fish would have a deeper place to go in colder weather and for a place for them to escape predators - like Raccoon's that might want to reach in to grab one! Would have had to put the fish in a tank for awhile, because it got so low. Come April I'm hoping to get fish in there for the longer haul. Frogs and turtles already frequent the pond.

Rain/snow mix continues lightly.

Sitting at about 37° now, but colder air starting to infiltrate in. Most spots I measured were between 7-8". The amount of exposed grass in my yard could fit within a 20x20' area.

Today is day 51 of snow cover for the winter.

Pond is full and overflowing down the hill. Water has carved a nice little canyon through the snowpack!

Talk about Mt Geos lol. You probably literally have the most snow left in southern WI/northern IL. I looked at wunderground webcams and cannot find a SINGLE one in northern IL with as much snow left as you. Only a few in the far north with a light or patchy cover.

Temp hit 44 today... felt so warm. Falling back into the 30's now. still lots of snow left. Slightly less than a foot in my front yard and still over 15" in the back by the woods.  several inches of snow tue/wed,and a cold week ahead will make whats left like a rock.... thought I heard a bird today too.

Haha. I went 15 miles to the west this afternoon and there was less snow out that way with more ground showing through. Snow depth today hasn't really changed and now it's snowing lightly again.

It will be the areas within 10 miles of the lake that will have the most snow on the ground right now. My snow cover matches what WI has right now more closely.

This camera in New Berlin has quite a bit of snow it looks like.

Another river level comparison: 48 hours ago and tonight, as heavier rain came through. This is a little stream near my house that reacts very flashy and rises quickly. If only the sun hadn't gone down, I'm positive its still rising now. Was just at bankfull when I left. 48+ hours of melting temps and about 0.40" rain.

Start the first vid then the 2nd right after and they line up pretty well! Fullscreen your browser to make sure they both fit on the screen. Happy with how this turned out, if only I had caught the crest of the stream tonight in a few hours.

Did a 4 day time lapse of the snow melt that started on March 8.  Started around 10" and ended today at around an inch.

Snow melted a lot slower than anticipated due to temps underachieving temps the last few days.  The very wet snow was very reluctant to melt too, even with almost 2" of rain.

Very cool timelapse! One pile in the backyard here otherwise completely bare.

Too bad about all I can see through that picture is fog lol (at least I think).  I can confirm that our ground is still solidly covered with at least a few inches of snowpack.  Only the very edges of lawns around here are showing some brown/dark green grass.

Lol, should have taken a snap shot. There's a bird feeder right in front of the camera, with a solid white backyard behind it.

Chicago Wx - what did Chicago have for 2008? That month had to have been close to 10".

DLL- that would be the easiest way to dig a pond! Need something to shore up the sides of a 12' hole though. All the rocks around my pond were hand plucked from fields and from areas of development.

Maybe another quick shot of snow for you on Thursday?

Got some icy patches outside now. Tomorrow's popcorn snow showers should be interesting to watch.

Had a quick hitting 3" of snow late evening and overnight. Another 3-4" this afternoon and tonight. It's still dark, but I can tell it stuck to everything! Gonna be stuck in the 20's next 2-3 days.
