WSW now for me ...

Heavy rain the past half hour or so...

Crap day....  went hiking up the bluff and the trail was horrible.  Glare ice, with slushy spots (had to walk on the side) and water was flowing down the trail....one slip and you'd be very wet ...had to march through the woods on the way down because it was just too icy.

Peaked at 42F here today. Sunny most of the day, with a few brief cloudy periods. Lots of melting, stream in the park behind my house starting to rise a little.

Looks like I will hit about 46F tomorrow, with some parts of extreme Southern Ontario hitting 62F! Also looking to be a warm day for the Ohio crew.

Would think the 60s would have an awful hard time making it across the icy lake there!

Awesome up here. Snow depth in tahquamenon state park are 28-32" of absolute cement. So dense it has a light blue hue inside. Coming up here at the end of winter every year is like a fireworks show. You have a nice lengthy display (winter in SE MI)....then a huge grand finale (U.P. in march) to go out with a bang! Don't want to go home!

So after a cutter to the west on Monday, non-stop suppression throughout the extended range. Looks like the more things change, the more they stay the same.

As much as i would be very happy and content ( what i am rooting for ) with no more threats and punting till next winter my hunch is it wont work out like that. Have already entered the epic realm here last March with Snow futility ( never even had back to back with a t or less till March 09-10 ) with 4 in a row. So yeah 5 in a row with even below normal snowfall would be a mind blowing feat. And the April snows of recent years ( have actually had more in April vs March back to 2009 ) says it is not the new norm either and thus the streak is bound to end. Amazing to believe but yeah i am rooting for futility. I figure it has to pay off at some point. This winter has been a nightmare so lets leave it at that and go for epic snowy next winter! :weenie:

Fixed!!!

You're welcome. :sizzle:

So you are saying we don't get decent severe wx in May in these parts?

It hasn't happened lately, aside from 5/23/11.

And at least on this side of the state, with a few exceptions (such as the 1970s tornado outbreak or the massive snowstorm back in the 1880s), April isn't all that it's cracked up to be around these parts. It's a lot like October, just boring. That gradually changes of course as you gain longitude and lose latitude.

But I'm more so ready for the sunny and hot days. Another May like we had last year would be ok too.

Snow pack took a serious hit here...i'm even seeing some grass now in spots.  35F/drizzle...probably the worst weather weekend you can get here.

Yeah this is miserable weather.  30s/40s with stratiform rain and no thunder in March is pretty pukey.  I guess we still need the rain, so I guess that's good.

Seeing some needles of grass sticking through the snow now in areas that are still covered.  Probably 1-2" of slush left.

I was hoping the snow would be completely melted by now with all this warmth and rain.  Mostly bare grass in the fields now but we still got a ways to go in the woods, especially north facing slopes.

The snow is VERY dense. Still several inches or more in most places here. Although south facing slopes, under trees in open areas, and around the highway are bare now.

I've experienced Mt. Rainier snow pack before! In March. It's incredible how deep it can get at Paradise. A lot of the main trails are packed down enough, but if you step outside of that packed down area, you'll sink in to your knees at least!

Mt. Rainier is amazing.  The trees and vegetation must be specially adapted to survive there as the snow-free growing season is 5 weeks best.

A few years ago I attempted to hike to Camp Muir by snowshoe in early November, a couple days after a 5 foot snowstorm.  Turned around about a half mile short.  It was an amazing experience but incredibly hard work and scary on the way out.  Started before sunrise and didn't make it back to the car until an hour after dark.  The problem was on the way down the conditions got really wet and I kept falling through the snow up to my waist even with my snowshoes and sometimes it took what seemed like 5 minutes or more to get myself out.  It crossed my mind that I could sprain my ankle and be stranded or worse.  I actually had to wait until after dark for the temperature to fall back below freezing so I could walk on top of it and get safely to the parking lot.  I can see how some people could panic in that kind of situation as navigating off trail by headlamp is not something most people are prepared for.

You got a little more than me.  The fields were already 50% bare yesterday afternoon.  Now the fields are 90% bare but there's still a ways to go in some wooded spots.  I notice the fresher snow has melted off the piles reviling brown crud that's 3-4 weeks old.  What's left now is very old snow.  So ugly I'd prefer it all melt as fast as possible.  Some piles are still huge though.
