I've been watching this for a couple days but APX seems to have lost interest in this happening.

Not sure why, this isn't all the far away.

The models are trending towards a second wave impacting the western area of the subforum with snow.  Sunday evening it would start in NE IA, & WI.

Didn't melt much snow today. Sitting at 15" now.

they just don't seem to be very excited about it.  that tho, along with some clippers along a tight baro zone could produce some snows up here next week.

not much melting here either.  probably have about the same amount of snow as you do in general but my shaded yard still has upwards of 20"... especially in the backyard.  beautiful sunny day  today with high of 36.  I even rode my bicycle.

DLL - the ground is completely frozen here. The rain will soak into the snowpack and/or runoff into bodies of water - which will be good for that cause. Just saw a few Robin's for the first time this year looking aimlessly around at the snow cover! Not sure what they're going to eat in the short term.

Snow piles are very healthy looking here still! Snow on the roof still too - all sides.

I think if there is a secondary, you and Milwaukee will be right on the edge of the potential accumulating snows, I like Madison to Green Bay if a more vigorous secondary were to occur.  No surprise there.

Still slant sticking.

That's what it is after you take into account the 1/2"-1" of pure ice underneath everything. The spot I measure is exposed to the sun till about 2:30pm. Snowfall depths vary in the yard between 8" under trees to about 18" where it drifted a bit.

Snow piles 2.5'-4'.

Im in paradise on lake superior. Tons of snow here. The snow was deep in Gaylord, deep and drifty at the bridge, but when we got within 5 miles of paradise the snow got absolutely insane. A little drippy but who cares. Id say the depth is at least 3 hardpacked feet!

yeah it's deep here :P

awesome!!!! enjoy your annual trip!!!

Yup, rock hard glacier in these parts. I hike at Hoffmaster several times a week. If it is the railing I am thinking of, it was actually damaged from a huge tree falling on it during one of our windstorms. How does snowpack here compare to the Grand Rapids area? More here?

Oh, I thought maybe it was the snow as there was a lot of it leaning on the railing.  It's been melting pretty steady the last two days but not evenly.  It's melting from the side more than from the top.  Big holes around the trees.  I'd say there's still 10" in some of the darkest shadiest places but the large bare areas are now growing very rapidly.  Hard to get an average depth now its so variable but it's melting fast.

36F will be the official high today at Milwaukee.  The last couple days overachieved a tad, but today underachieved, and we still have several inches of snow cover in most sheltered areas.  Will be interesting to see if we can keep some of it through the rain and temps in the upper 30s and low 40s the next couple days.

Notched up to 41F...could see clouds moving in from the southwest this evening...took the kid sledding and the hill was already garbage (grass showing)...  Got stuck leaving in the Focus...spun the tires for like 10 minutes and had her buried...ended up pushing it by myself and after some rocking it got free and the car started driving away without me...i caught up to it and jumped in ....

Thanks! Its my 7th trip up north in winter aince 2007. Go every year except 2011 when Detroit had deeper snow than paradise! When you say 3 feet peoplw think 3 feet of snow but its so different. You can walk on top in spots and then fall through to your waist and have a hell of a time getting out!

Is Lake Superior State Park on the Ontario side of the Lake open?  4-6 feet depth in that area is pretty common by late winter due to the big time upsloping.  I've only been there in the summer though.

I used to go to Mount Rainier in early April back when I lived out in Seattle.  The depth sometimes gets to be 20 feet or more by that time of year.  When it gets wet in the afternoon sun you absolutely need skis or snowshoes or you could easily break your leg trying to walk on it.  At a certain consistency if you fall through it hardens like concrete or quicksand around your legs making it extremely hard to pull yourself back out.  Usually by May or June it gets to be more like pre-glacier snow that you can walk on top without sinking more than a few inches

I've experienced Mt. Rainier snow pack before! In March. It's incredible how deep it can get at Paradise. A lot of the main trails are packed down enough, but if you step outside of that packed down area, you'll sink in to your knees at least!
