uncle W
I like 1972 and 1980 over the other three epic winter years...1972 had a cold shot in early April with a dusting of snow...1980 has the latest 32 degree morning for recent years...It had a noreaster the last day Of March with heavy rain and wet snow...A dusting of snow on the ground on April 1st...Gordon Barns made a prediction that year on Ground Hog day that there would be eight more weeks of winter and he was right...both years had wet snowfalls mid March... Chaser25973
What were the summers like after cool springs? Please tell me we're going back to the Summers we had a few years ago where it was difficult to get to the 90s and we certainly never went to the 100s. IntenseBlizzard2014
If a Below Average temperatures in May occurs, there's at least a higher than normal chance of below average temperatures in the following summer, based on Bluewave's data. If you look at two recent examples that Bluewave showed (1980,1996) both were opposites during the summer. 1980 was a hot summer, especially in August. 1996, however, was cool and below average. Please tell me we're going back to the Summers we had a few years ago where it was difficult to get to the 90s and we certainly never went to the 100s. Last summer (2012) was not a huge leap from normal at Central Park with regards to temperature...there were 19 days with a temp of 90 F or above and 1 day with a temp of 100 F or above. The station generally averages less than one day per year with a temp of 100 F or higher and about 15 days per year with a temp of 90 F or higher.
