Jalba
Still heavy sleet going on here. Non-stop almost. 38.3F with a wetbulb of 33.
eyewall
I think this will definitely bust on the ZR side. No way we drop to 30. It was looking suspicious for measurable frozen already based on the partials. I am already seeing above freezing wet bulbs north of NC and critical thicknesses are well north as well. wncsnow
i agree with eyewall dont think this will pan out even in northern mtn areas... Boone has wet bulbed at 33..
BIG FROSTY
rn/ip mix 41.8 I think 35 will be about as low as it gets... So like eyewall ZR I think is out of the question!
WilkesboroDude
37 over 30. Light crunchy accumulations on the grass...porch...cars...etc. Dew-point will come above freezing for Wilkes/Surry but think my 6am it will be 32 or less as will be the temp. Boone and Jefferson now both down to 33.
eyewall
rn/ip mix 41.8 I think 35 will be about as low as it gets... So like eyewall ZR I think is out of the question! Yeah the p-type nomogram alone was enough to say no way in terms of forecasts vs. past cases.
jburns
Dew point just went above freezing. 40º DP 33.5. Turn out the lights.
WilkesboroDude
Don't see how it could be busting...28 degree readings with heavy precip/thunder for several more hours in the northern mountains. The town of Boone showing 33 degrees at midnight proves nothing.
BIG FROSTY
Yeah the p-type nomogram alone was enough to say no way in terms of forecasts vs. past cases. Believe it or not I got alot of SNOW mixed in now. 39.9/
eyewall
Believe it or not I got alot of SNOW mixed in now. 39.9/29 That is a rarity for sure in this setup! Must be an isothermal layer developing due to rates aloft.
BIG FROSTY
That is a rarity for sure in this setup! Must be an isothermal layer developing due to rates aloft. A few big flakes probably 50% snow but it is rather light.
WilkesboroDude
Believe it or not I got alot of SNOW mixed in now. 39.9/29 Your not kidding. Went to check for myself after you said that...I can see under the street light snow mixing in with sleet here.
WilkesboroDude
Would post pics of my front yard but its dark...it is turning half way white it was just crunchy earlier. Turning white from mostly the sleet though as far as I can tell. This is why Wilkes County didn't announce the 2 hour delay. Bet they close tomorrow. BIG FROSTY
mostly snow here, coming down pretty good too! 39.1 EDIT: pouring sn/ip now
WilkesboroDude
Jefferson down to 32. I guess the point is pretty much moot...who needs to wetbulb to 32 if sleet/snow will fall anyway and accumulate. Still think it hits or hits below 32 between 3-7am to create some icy conditions on top of the accumulations.
BIG FROSTY
big ole flakes coming down!!! 38.

WilkesboroDude
Looking at the local community forum (GoWilkes) it appears I am not just in a cold pocket of air this time around...ground is white in other parts of Wilkes too.

WilkesboroDude
Went to go check the road and slid trying to walk up the ditch LOL. Got some hills here. Road is mostly slush...but I live on a side road so main roads likely much better I would think.
BIG FROSTY
lucky!! send it 45 miles east! lol ... looks like a nice band on radar from INT to Wytheville still 41 over 24 here I wasn't expecting this? bonus glad I stayed up a while now! it is putting down snow/sleet right now. 37.
superjames1992
My eyes may be deceiving me, but it looks like some mostly-melted snowflakes are mixing in now. Can anyone else in the Triad confirm this?

WilkesboroDude
I am glad I did not agree with Eyewall. Boone and Jefferson now down to 32. Upper 20s for the past few hours in other areas with much more moisture on the way. I can't say 100% snow here because I do hear some sleet.
