Yeah it's been busy up here...it really must be different though in different areas. But people are out and working these days up here.

Lots and lots of yard work and burning. But it may be a country thing because the suburbs don't usually burn their brush.

This time of year is huge for yard work because you don't need a permit to burn if there is at least 1-inch of snow on the ground. Get out and get all the deadfall, down branches, brush together and burn it before the snow melts. It is very hot doing work at 45-50 and sun this time of year. Sweating.

Lol I sweat running every day in mid winter when its 0 or below some mornings. What does sweating have to do with it? You sweat when you ski

I agree...I was jealous to miss out on that snow band...though I did get a piece of it on the northern edge. But the meat of that is probably like a one in 30 year type experience...true whiteout 5" per hour stuff with 60mph+ gusts. That is not replicated very easily or often.

Garth and I lucked out with a 6 per hour. I will never forget it.

Not painting a house, lol. Some 2-inch trim under a shed roof isn't going to matter if we get an inch of snow. But yes before starting any small project I'd wait for a week of sun and 70F just to be sure. I'm sure your wife is stoked at how productive you are this time of year in the awful sunny upper 40s!

You wait til July 4th? :lmao:

Speaking of trees, we just took down 4!! Norway maple, sugar, mulberry and a sassafras, now we at least have sun in the yard until around 3 pm.  So people can get outside and enjoy arctic air but doing work on a mostly sunny 50 degree day is torture?  yikes.

I don't think anyone is arguing the temps are cold. Temps near 50 and sun obviously make life easier whether it be walking around or outdoor stuff. But that 45-55 range is the most useless range of temps on the planet in terms of comfort and activities. I know I know..to each his own.

What a disaster, that looks terrible.

Norway Maples suck.

Welp regardless - the weather preferences are obviously subjective to personal taste.  I for one really like these first days in the 50s, with light wind and elevating sun angles.  Gives the affectation of being much warmer.  You can almost hear the soil splitting and the crocuses spearing skyward - in mind's eye of course.

Note on next weeks cold.  The 12z Good For Schit model has that modifying with rapidity as expected.  In fact, the model initialized us inside the 3rd blue thickness contour, yet we push through the mid 50s today.  Just 36 hours after the cold front passes on this run, and already the area is back to the same thicknesses, next week.  It's an homage to what I was just telling Scott how cold air masses normalize really fast at this time of year.   It's why if you are hoping for a spring snow storm, you got to time things pretty well.  It can be done...   We'll see.

What's that green fuzzy stuff growing on the ground in the middle of your yard?

I saw yesterday you still have frost. That's a win

This one flew over my head.

On a serious note, 3ft with blizz conditions would be cool, but I find the wind to be annoying because of snow measuring issues. I had 18" from the blizz, which is still impressive, but I enjoyed my 1ft storms with lighter winds more. I know I'm probably on my own there, but it's the truth.

 No shade for the kids to play in the yard. Grass burning up in June. Doesn't make much sense but maybe they're putting in a pool?

Nah, full shade thanks to neighbors trees on the south side of lawn.  Just nice to get the trees off the house, and get a little sun, we had zero, deck is full shade after 3 pm for oyster shucking and cornhole ping pong etc

I'm going to bump this thread in May when we have a strong NW wind and highs near 50F. I bet most people will be complaining about the cold.

Wind sucks for measurements, but makes the storm that much better.

IDK I kinda like this one. Don S did too., that makes 5 of mine in his digital snow historical sites. How many of yours are there? I know Kev has some. IMG_20130319_171651.jpg

That one's a keeper, Steve.

Temps in the 40s are putrid. I'll do yardwork when its 65F out...and when the snow actually melts. 90% of people will not being doing yardwork until it is warmer.

40's are decent for brush burning, though I still ike it warmer even for that.

That should be when Blizz is in torch mode and we have 850 temps of +18C, yet cold NE winds and temps in the 50s. Can't wait.

You better wait until it warms up to do any of that stuff ,Deep Deep winter until mothers day this year, And with the 1-2' of snow next week that you are getting in CT, You won't be able to gather up all that wood in time go go go

They ran a contest to what the date would be before she completely melted, Your right, It was june just don't know the exact day

And she wasn't even built completely out of snow, but had alot of straw and supports inside the structure.

I think melt out was June 6th or so, if memory serves me right.
