However, in the official forecast that just went up, all 4 Suffolk County zones
are forecast to receive between 8 and 14 inches, with sleet "possibly" mixing
in.

Remember being a little frustrated as the storm inched up the coast. Think it snowed for hours at JFK before it made it to my block

in Fresh Meadows. They got about 8 inches more than me too lol.

Have been in the dreaded "mixed bag" for the last half hour or so. Try as it

might, the snow seems to be losing the battle here. Still, no complaints.

Storm total as of 1:00 PM: 17 inches

Snow depth: 22 inches

Yeah, I don't remember any sleet up this way. I distinctly remember that there was a period of graupel, though.

I didn't remember any sleet here either, but then I found a description of a mix that day in my own words.  William is pretty sure there was no sleet, but I also found a description of the mix that he posted.  Wiliiam and I are relatively sane (by this board's lowly standards), so it is possible other's memories are faulty too.  I also realize that the lack of sleet in the record of hourly obs at local airports for a storm 10 years ago is not definitive.  There is a preponderence of evidence that there was a fair amount of taint scattered around during the day on 2/17/03.

A week ago I would have sworn it didn't sleet here that day.

I don't really remember any mixing where I am.  I remember this was one of the first nights that my soon to be wife (got married in April of 2003) stayed in our apartment at the time.  I think the neighbors thought I was nuts walking out into the courtyard every few hours with a yard stick to take measurements.  I have to say digging out in an apartment complex to me is worse than doing my driveway now.  I think I got nearly 2' here.

no prolonged sleet in South Brunswick, NJ. i recall a couple pingers here and there but ive always thought you get that with really cold systems. (i remember 96 had some pingers at times in Piscataway). i think Ray is right that the sleet line never made it past mercer/monmouth.

anytime you get around 20" its obv an all time event, esp considering the impacts were wide spread in the tri state. but it could have been better....and i say that because the precip field just did not want to budge north during the morning hours on sunday. I/we in CNJ could have had 6-8 more hours of snow which would have rivaled the totals from 96. As a weenie, I was hoping to experience that....nevertheless, when the snow did start around 3:30pm it wasted no time coming down. it went from flurries to mod snow in a couple minutes.

my best 3 storms are ironically 7 years apart. but I really hope I dont have to wait til 2017 to book a flight back to NJ for the next great one.
