Absolute Humidity
Weird that the map doesnt jive with the totals listed in the report for my county. Nor mine, NESIS maps always seem a little screwy. They have my area in the ten inch color for the Oct 2011 storm yet no one here received more than 4. SnoSki14
This and Boxing Day are very close since 2000, but I'll still take PD II for its duration, the snowfall amounts, the very cold temperatures, and the bigger impact.
Stormlover74
This and Boxing Day are very close since 2000, but I'll still take PD II for its duration, the snowfall amounts, the very cold temperatures, and the bigger impact. for me PDII lasted about 22 hours before turning over to freezing drizzle but snowfall rates were mostly in the 1-1.5" and winds were fairly light. Boxing day is special for the crazy snowfall rates and 6 hours of true blizzard conditions. PDII is unique in that it impacted the entire state almost uniformly without any crazy sharp cutoffs in totals

simpsonsbuff
Not a huge fan of this storm... Kinda boring. I mean snow is great... cold is great... But it was the high pressure that made this storm, not the low pressure. If that makes any sort of sense.

Loved how we got the overrunning snows before the main event. Not much wind but sometimes thats nice.. Was about 15 at the time and this still ranks as my number 2 behind the boxing day storm. Another good thing about that storm was how long the snow stayed on the ground.. We had snow pack for 2 weeks on the jersey shore. Was out of school for a week and half! I miss those big Miller A's......

chazman
Remember being a little frustrated as the storm inched up the coast. Think it snowed for hours at JFK before it made it to my block in Fresh Meadows. They got about 8 inches more than me too lol.
Absolute Humidity
With dense dry arctic air in place, it took many hours for the over running snows to creep up north. By the time the weak low moved in (+1000mb I believe) many in DC to Philly had changed over to sleet. That sleet line took many hours to inch up north past TTN and NYC and by the time it did, many of us already had 18" with several more snow and sleet inches to follow. My favorite part of this this storm was the duration, but the sleet taint prevented it from rivaling 1996. Otherwise it easily could have. It's impact was vast. I can remember half my office being forced to take their paid time off days as snow plows did not arrive in their neighborhoods for upto five days after the storm. uncle W
2002-03 was one hell of a winter...It had snow from late Oct. to April...A snowy Christmas day...A major blizzard in February...4-8" of snow in April with three days with highs in the 30's...A very cold January...It did have it's down time and rain storms but all and all it was a great winter...Feb. 5-19th was the greatest period that winter...Where I lived on Staten Island I measured less than 18" for PDII and had 14-15" on the ground when it ended... Very exciting winters, no doubt, but they weren't the kind of winters that measure up to the New York City classics like 22-23, 47-48, 60-61, and 95-96. 02-03 is not quite on that level but it comes closer than either 09-10/10-11 imo. A good storm in January definitely would have changed that, though.
Stormlover74
Had there been no sleet, this would have been a NESIS 5 storm.... Imagine how widespread the 30+ would be? I really don't recall any sleet in north jersey. I was snow from about 830 pm Sunday til around 6 on Monday. Then a lull and I remember some freezing drizzle on top but by then the storm was mostly gone. Some of my heaviest snow actually came with the last batch Monday evening. But again away from the coast I don't remember much wind or drifting and we didn't get the kind of banding like in 06, 10 and last week just continuous moderate to heavy snow with temps in the low teens rising to the low 20s by the end. It also warmed up considerably as we got near 50 a couple days later.
Absolute Humidity
There was a period of sleet for several hours in NYC between 1 and 5 pm and the end of the storm. Later that evening, the sleet and or frozen drizzle changed to light snow and by early Tuesday morning, an associated upper level low past over dumping another one to three inches area wide. Isotherm
24" of heaven in Monmouth with PD II. Phenomenal long duration storm. Started snowing around 3pm Sunday afternoon. I recall watching the dry air eat up the snow band as it tried like hell to progress nwd in NJ. Finally the first flakes flew in my backyard by 3pm, and we snowed all night and all President's Day, until about 5pm when it tapered off to SNSH. Absolute Humidity
Well, no need for the floggings Thanks for rescinding the floggings. It was ten years ago and for all I know, it could have been a Philly station I was watching but being so tired from lack of sleep, had thought I was watching New York. We did have both cities on cable back then. All I know is when the GFS or the ETA rolled out late that Friday or Saturday morning and popped that low i pretty much didn't sleep until early that Monday morning.
