WinterWxLuvr
We missed a widespread 4-8 week by just a couple of degrees. Instead it takes 40 events to get 4 inches. This is a very special place we live in. It's a shame we all can't get an event to enjoy at the same time. Next week......?

87storms
Had a nice burst of snow in Damascus. About .3" of very wet snow. It looks like it is ending now. Elevation here is 780' in case anyone cares. if you're a snow lover here, it's not a bad call living further n&w away from the cities.
WinterWxLuvr
With all due respect to PSU, time of day most certainly matters when temps are marginal. The only people seeing snow are the ones that started after some of the daytime heating had dissipated.

87storms
This reminds me of Feb 23, 1987....big flakes, heavy heavy snow, of course it won't be 15 inches in 9 hours but nice to look at. arguably my favorite storm of all time and have seen that storm pop up around threads here recently. flakes were so big they lit up the night sky. i was a kid so they looked like freakin' snowballs, but i don't think i remember a storm with crazier rates. i was too young for 1983, but heard that was sick as well. Jebman
Steady rain. Expecting about three flurries just before the precip shuts off at 1130pm and skies clear. Back edge is coming up faster than that asteroid that's hurtling close to Earth. At least these heartbreaks are consistent. Models are coming into decent agreement that any low that forms along the front should stay far enough east to keep us mainly dry.

usedtobe
Ha. The NAM likes you on sim radar at least. The better vertical motion is south of me by a bit plus temps will be above freezing in mid Feb, not great for accumulation unless it is snowing S++

I guess my point is that every little bit helps. Losing the sun isn't a bad thing if you're looking to shed 5 degrees or so.

Skywalker03
Just had dinner up north of Germantown at the Comus Inn. Pouring snow, as you can see here: A nice little surprise. Flakes were pretty big! Back home in north Rockville and it's coming down nicely. No stickage yet here though.
Ian
no snow in bethesda yet. the older i get the more i realize just how sensitive to elevation snow is around here. elevation is important in marginal events anywhere. i used to live at 1350 in nw ct and would see huge differences just going down 600 feet to the next town sometimes.. but i do wonder if we're living on the edge more these days than we used to so we see it amplified. Yep, 1979 PD1 was tops in my lifetime, but Feb 83 was sick in the thunderstorms with cloud-ground lightning and booming thunder...then Feb 87 was more like Feb 79 for sheer intensity....plus it was intense for most of the storm....9 hours.... So after three intense events in a 8 year span I didn't see rates near that until Feb 9/10, 2010.
