TugHillMatt
Heavy, heavy snow here along the lakeshore in West Michigan. I can definitely see the lake enhancement showing up on radar. We have received several inches in the past couple hours. Schools in my area were not closed today, so it's going to be a scary commute home. Jonger
Upstate NY and northern New England (NH, VT, ME) is in the conversation. True, but that's several states. Michigan is the best state for snow east of the Rockies. All other discussion of this is just wasted key strokes.

Much of Michigan is greater that 150. Add a few more ranges and Michigan puts the dagger to most of New England.

A-L-E-K
All of VT and NH average more than twice the snowfall of much of lower MI including the area people actually live. NH also has Mt. Washington which owns any hyper local lake belt in MI. This is an open and shut case. Michigan is at best 5th in the East. And 5th in the east in snow is about as impressive as 5th in the east in the NBA.

The U.P. is like its own state. If it was, there would be no debate which state is AWESOME for snow. I think NY and Maine are very close contestants though... Jonger
The Upper Peninsula of Michigan hosts the snowiest places in the United States east of the Rocky Mountains (aside from the summit of Mt. Washington) thanks to persistent snow squalls blowing off Lake Superior and unloading their precipitation over the hills of the Keweenaw Peninsula and the Huron Mountains west of Marquette. A dot on the map in this area named Herman takes top honors with an average of 236” of snow each winter season (Mt. Washington averages 310”). Those snowfall regions are limited to higher elevations spots and those states themselves are like 1/10th the size of Michigan. We have FLAT farm fields in the UP with 3-4 feet sitting in them!
