weatherbo
Are we really debating this? lol Everyone is going to have their own opinion. Far N Lower, the UP, N NE, Up State NY, are all great places to live if you like snow. They all have pro's and con's.... hard to pick one.....BUT the UP probably would win out IMO, although good Winter in Maine, NH, and VT, are great too. I've had 18-25" of snow for weeks and soon to be approaching 100" for the season, so I'm happy PLUS...UP Summers are AH-MAZING!!

WestMichigan
Like blackrock said, it is snowing nonstop this morning in West Michigan. Visibility has been 1/2 mile or less and probably more like 1/4 mile since about 8:15 this morning. Roads are looking nasty for the commute home. That's the best part about this whole argument. Lol Makes me wonder if some commenting on this have spent any real time in a snowbelt of MI. Some posters go bonkers over a decent I-94 band that drops 2" of snow. That's a routine/weekly and in some cases almost a daily occurrence in the "traditional" snowbelts of NW Lower and especially in the UP.
Chicago WX
Man, all I was trying to do was say that parts of MI was having a lot fun today. I understand the snow climo of the state, so no need to take personal shots. Enjoy the snow today.
Hoosier
lol I think you have to separate it out. The UP can go toe to toe with anybody in the east but it gets more complicated when you talk about all of Michigan.
Geos
A couple good snow bursts this morning put down 0.5" here. Interesting discussion going on about who's state is snowier! I'd say MI is the snowiest state in between the mountains.

weatherbo
Snow and wind have picked up here to the point it's hard to see much beyond the end if the driveway at times. Going to have some good drifts when this is over. Interested to see where the Lake Superior connected bands set up later. That will determine the foot totals. turtlehurricane
We got about an inch from this event at MSN, sidewalks were an icy disaster when I was walking to work this morning, slip-sliding the whole way. Most of what salt melted has refrozen into ice sheets. Stuck in the lower teens, diurnal cycle be damned.
frostfern
One of the better lake effect events of the season here. There's a nice tight curvature to the flow.

Jonger
Really really rippin' here. Seeing the LSuperior connection nice! That wind direction is hooking up major fetch.... I would say this is a setup that most favors NW lower. We are getting NW and SW lower convergence here, but its not amounting to much... Probably an inch. michsnowfreak
A rather blah system here. This is what, 3-4 times now this winter when the high temperature was set in the overnight hours. All the old snow melted, we received just 0.13" of rain, and though snow showers have fell off and on all day, we picked up just 0.1" in a decent shower which has literally blown away/evaporated, except in cracks of sidewalk and stuff. Regarding this silly argument about snowy states, one thing without a doubt is that MI sees snow falling the most often.
michsnowfreak
All of VT and NH average more than twice the snowfall of much of lower MI including the area people actually live. NH also has Mt. Washington which owns any hyper local lake belt in MI. This is an open and shut case. Michigan is at best 5th in the East. And 5th in the east in snow is about as impressive as 5th in the east in the NBA. That is not true. The lowest spot in MI for snowfall average is Detroit at 42.7"....south-central NH does not average close to twice that (Concord averages 64.1"). Its kind of a silly argument to make because as was pointed out, there is a greater area of MI that averages more than NH+VT, but its not MI's fault for state boundary lines lol. You are always bashing MI anyway, the bottom line is MI, MN, WI, NH, VT, ME, NY are the best states east of the rockies for winter rec.
