featherwx
RAH's latest briefing puts Durham and Orange in the 2-4 with possible 3-6 range...could anyone elaborate on how this would be possible? As mentioned accumulations have been extremely light and this band is already moving out

eyewall
No way we get 2-4 in Carrboro unless a mystery band sets up after dark. We are losing badly in the ground temp battle.
Jet Stream Rider
I've never seen it snow like this and not even accumulate on the grass or bushes. Yeah, our surface temps are just too high. I've gone up about a degree in the last 4 hours despite some periods of moderate snow. hopefully we will go below freezing at the surface soon. Upper air is plenty cold. As mentioned accumulations have been extremely light and this band is already moving out Banking on upper air dynamics with the trough and its orientation. If we can get enough development of the low off the coast and instability westward then precip will persist.
Steven_1974
Been snowing here since 10:00. Started out with big fluffy flakes. Roads are already starting to get slushy. I think this started a lot earlier than forecasted and is going to end up being a lot more than thought by most people. Yep, same thing here in Cary as well. I'm heading to the NC State game in a little while. Will be interesting to see how things progress when I get out from PNC Arena.
eyewall
If you counted what was falling in the air we would have reached warning criteria. Classic Phantom Snowstorm.
