bluewave
Take a look at the radar-the back edge is stopping cold and you can already see perhaps the beginning of the backbuilding which will occur, as the northern vort and energy catches up to our storm. Watch for the radar west of us to start filling in quite a bit this evening as the phase finally occurs. Heavy snow could make it down to Philly for a time, but it will be short lived down there. There will likely be a very stark difference between the Philly area and ours by morning. The reverse of exactly 3 years ago to a couple of days. IsentropicLift
18z GFS has this only down to 988mb by 00z. It's already sub 984.
jm1220
The reverse of exactly 3 years ago to a couple of days. Yep-I feel bad for those guys southwest of Trenton. Hopefully the incoming northern energy can pound away for a couple of hours there. And "reverse" would be 2 feet of snow for me and 2" down there-probably not happening. TWCCraig
Based on how heavy the snow is falling and the 4km NAM. Someone might pull of 25-30" here on the island.
Chris L
Man look how East the GFS actually is in contrast....
jm1220
18z GFS has this only down to 988mb by 00z. It's already sub 984. And yet again, clearly too far east. Toss it in the trash. GFS just got schooled every which way to Sunday by this storm.
IsentropicLift
that's snow brother Well aware, the point of my post is that equals insane snowfall rates if it's actually falling as snow.

mikemost
I'm in Morristown and we're really quite close to the edge of the precipitation shield... Moderate snows for the past several hours though, beautiful out there. Can't wait until the phase completes and it really starts to crank!
IsentropicLift
As crappy and as far east and weak as the GFS is showing, it still has an additional 0.75"+ for the whole area
Rjay
dude enough - look at the echoes south of LI, they are CLEARLY moving ene, they were headed towards me and voila...made a right turn The storm will make that pivot at some point. CIK62
If rain rate is really 1"/hr on LI or anywhere and it turns to snow at that QPF rate with a ratio of just 10 to 1, would there really be 10" of new snow in just one hour! Never heard of such a rate of snow---would squeeze air out of the way and you would not be able to breathe! I believe 5/hr. " is tops in the great storms. Can a Met explain?
