Storm At Sea
Oh, no one mentioned that the GFS ensembles from 12z were all over this next system...Almost every member has the storm. BTW, this is a CLASSIC problem with the Euro...It's holding the energy in the SW...that's why it was so flat today. I suspect the next big thread tonight after 1 AM will be "Euro has repeat for LI"
Saturn510
As much as i hate to say it, we need the gfs to continuously show a storm run for run. As much as we bash it, every time the other models show vastly different solutions than the gfs when it comes crunch time and the gfs still isnt on board, things tend to not go as planned. Juliancolton
GFS has been remarkably consistent, save a couple flat runs the past few days. It's awesome when you can shovel your driveway as you look forward to more tracking.
IsentropicLift
GFS also loves the 2/17-2/18 time frame

WE GOT HIM
Anyone else think the lack of cold air will be a problem and a high for that matter?
IntenseBlizzard2014
Anyone else think the lack of cold air will be a problem and a high for that matter? Not really. This is a Pure Miller A. So a marginal airmass will be no problem here.
IsentropicLift
Such a pretty storm, I'm actually surprised its not wetter given the gulf origins, I wouldn't be surprised if it trended with more QPF, track is perfect. With no blocking high to the north, it would be a fast mover. The current storm has almost a banana high draped to the north.
SACRUS
GGEM is closer but still more progressive sliding off of NC, similar to the prior ECM. http://meteocentre.com/models/gemglb_amer_00/P6_GZ_D5_PN_120_0000.gif
WE GOT HIM
Not really. This is a Pure Miller A. So a marginal airmass will be no problem here. Yea I'm also thinking the massive snow from this storm may help a degree or 2 at the low levels
IsentropicLift
Hopefully this does end up as snow. We don't want to end up with a 2-3" rainstorm on top of the melting snow. Would cause catastrophic flooding in parts of New England.
snywx
Its amazing how this month is starting to look more and more like Feb 2010.. A parade of storms followed by the monster aka snowicane... Similar to what is being advertised on both the GFS & GGEM
IsentropicLift
What does the Euro look like for this storm?
CooL
What does the Euro look like for this storm? Flat. Kicker in the NW messes up the trough. GFS doesn't have that kicker
Storm At Sea
It's flat, but not as flat as the 12z. Also, I don't have the deterministic Euro yet, but the 12z determ. Euro was a major hit. GFS ensembles tonight--6/12 show a major hit for the 120 hr storm. Flat. Kicker in the NW messes up the trough. GFS doesn't have that kicker

I don't see any MECS on the NAM - Mondays storm is going to be rain and cause major flooding problems - ainly in the streets and highways because of blocked storm drains from the snow............... NEG NAO
Flooding? from what half an inch of rain?i updated it to street and highway because of the blocked drains - good idea if the road crews get out there and unblock them - hopefully mondays is even less then 1/2 inch and we have a snow on top of snow event later next week - those are kind of rare around here

Damn, people here really are in a snow coma. oh ok yes the set up looks good - just need the right track up the coast - maybe we can get a good snowstorm start to finish instead of rain and slop cutting the totals
