ScituateWX
Yeah Scott it is a mess here in Scituate. Now that most of the snow has melted from the sides of the road just debris everywhere, sure is going to take a while to get it all cleaned up. I was wondering the same thing about the trees that had uprooted, they looked like healthy trees otherwise one thing is for sure they are some big trees that came down I have not seen anything like it in my time. Usually just run of the mill limbs etc..... but this just makes you go WOW. On a side not they have got things cleaned up pretty well down by the lighthouse area of town anyway but that whole area and others took a beating and it looks like the tides are high for the first few weeks of March around 10 feet or so, won't take much of a blow to cause problems again. I mean you had to see it to believe it. Beats any hurricane I've seen up here. I literally was in awe. Take a trip down 3A...go slowly and check out the damage. Take a trip down 3A...go slowly and check out the damage. it's pretty impressive. off the top of my head, i think it's the second most widespread damage we've had here since Bob. the 12/9/05 damage was insane, but over a much smaller area. i've driven all over the place in the last few weeks and every where you turn there are trees down - and some really big ones too. i mean it doesn't look like a war zone or anything but on some streets, every yard has at least one tree down. That first pic looks like an EF2 went through there. It did look like a war zone at times driving around, especially rt 3a. I really was shocked at the amount of damage. CoastalWx
yeah and when you consider how often the south shore/cape are battered by wind, it says something. Exactly what I thought. What also surprised me was that many of the trees were just uprooted..just pushed over.

I've seen a ton of those around the Taunton area as well. Unreal the amount of trees down. Way more than I've ever seen with one storm in the 12 years I've been in Middleboro/Taunton. CoastalWx
I know most won't care about this, but some are saying worst storm since '78 when taking into account damage to cstl homes and tree damage. Perfect storm still did more damage to cstl homes. http://www.wickedlocal.com/marshfield/topstories/x171154616/Marshfield-asks-residents-to-report-storm-losses?rssfeed=true#axzz2MECMJxxf

CoastalWx
More from the chief. In Marshfield, the situation was so dire that the National Guard was called in to help. Ninety-three percent of town residents lost power during the storm and as many as 160 people and 38 pets stayed overnight at an emergency shelter at the Furnace Brook Middle School, according to Police Chief Phillip A. Tavares. During the storm, a house and barn burned to the ground on Trouants Island, neighborhoods flooded, and dunes at the beach were “completely wiped out, gone,” he said. “It’s incredible, the amount of damage,” said Tavares, whose own cruiser was hit by falling branches. “It was surreal being out in the middle of it. It was very similar to what I imagine a battle scene would be. “There’s going to be months and months of cleanup. And the assessment of [the cost of] all the overtime and the damage is going to take weeks,” he added. My friend who's a firefighter said the same. He's never seen anything like it. I gotta try to take more pics. Just can't believe the rows of trees pushed over.

Damage In Tolland
Scooter I bet what happened is there was a macroburst, winds probably gusted 80-100 mph and that combined with the wet snow just toppled entire forests

Maybe it was just wind and snow combo, but certainly something I haven't seen before.
joey2002
Will we ever see a band like this again? my guess is no as most have never. One of the most incredible experiences of my life. Never thought it could snow like that... monster snow balls falling from the sky along with chunks of small hail. Actually painful being out there, lol, but we got 10" in a matter of 90 minutes. I gotta try to take more pics. Just can't believe the rows of trees pushed over. It was wild out there for sure! I was out and about trying to keep up with the plowing and it was a lost cause. At one point I tried to make it down to the harbor, took me a good 35 min. with all the downed lines and trees. My father police chief and cousin Lieutenant on the department responded into a call of a family in distress down on Oceanside Drive. They went out in a big National guard truck that the department got a while back and became stuck in the surge, they made it out ok but it just sounded wild! I will have some more pictures soon from the first high tide during the daylight, just unreal!
