SnoSki14
I wonder how much warm air will be involved before the changeover to pure snow. These monsters usually change faster than the Nam would indicate but the timing will make a difference especially to counties just s and west of the city. Amped
NMM< and ARW have the QPF bomb just east of Sandy hook. The NAM is maybe 25 Miles northwest of that. Euro had over 2" for EWR. NAM is not that far fetched.
Kaner587
storm total amounts at hr 35 into NYC is between 6-7inches on the 4km nam of LIQUID...sorry. Snow amounts would be measured in yardsticks
Sundog
The 30 inch contour is touching the city. It's not that hard to read folks.
Kaner587
So overdone lol ScreenHunter_15 Feb. 07 21.31.png if we take only 33% of that were talking about 2.5in of qpf lol. that is crazy
ace0927
Hope you guys looked at soundings too. NYC will mix a bit before going over. It's NNJ that gets crushed. hey Scott - the skew-t's i saw are pretty good even for JFK after hr 24...can you confirm...isnt this a snow sounding? . IntenseBlizzard2014
00Z NAM has 2-3'+ of snow for Southern Westchester County. Never thought that could happen. Although I had dreams about storms like this all the time. Literally.

CoastalWx
hey Scott - the skew-t's i saw are pretty good even for JFK after hr 24...can you confirm...isnt this a snow sounding? . Verbatim, that smells of pingers to me. Notice how the sounding kisses the 00z line for about 100mb. If vvs are through the roof it may be an isothermal snow sounding, but anytime I see those soundings I think some IP mixed. Of course the NAM could be too warm because it's too far west which changes things.
MikeS
The 4km NAM frame at HR 27 is essentially a work of art for the city and it's immediate metro area. Unreal.
mulen
I'm very obnoxious tonight because this is one hell of a chase if more than half of the model outputs verify it's one hell of a memory ,snow googles on ready to report for action. The wind should be bazarre gents see ya . donsutherland1
Yep sorry....looking on an iPhone lol. This run is kooky though haha...but who knows. Remember the GFS that was thrown out due to certain "issues" on our blizzard in 2011? I'm hoping for it ! No problem. Sometimes it's difficult to see the details on the iPhone. ace0927
I think they had to invent some colors to make that map well, we would have a new king of all NE snow storms
Rtd208
I know its the NAM clown map, but looking at the snowfall accumulations there looks to be an extremely sharp cutoff in extreme eastern Middlesex Co. portions of Monmouth Co NJ and Richmond NY, does anyone think that is possible?
ace0927
It's 12+ for the city and 2ft for northern nj. its A LOT more than that
SnowGoose69
The HRRR is notably quicker than the NAM but it sure does have a Boxing Day like look on its sim radar at 14Z tomorrow with the precip shield approaching from the SE
CoastalWx
BTW, look at the H5 vorticity in the area near NYC at 00z. Now look west. Winds in the mid levels coming from the east while winds over ern PA and near PHL coming from the WSW. There is your frontogenesis. So, I could buy a band...but where it sets up is the question. HailMan06
is that 2 feet of snow in 3 hours in nnj?8"/hour?
jm1220
hey Scott - the skew-t's i saw are pretty good even for JFK after hr 24...can you confirm...isnt this a snow sounding? . Likely snow with some sleet maybe mixing in. Nearly saturated all the way to 250mb and look at the sfc wind direction, NE, maybe more like NNE. 850mb winds are also north of east. That tells me that temps at that level and below are rapidly cooling.
Saturn510
Lol Ace telling All snow hes too low on snow amounts. Think thats what is going to make this a historic storm... that comment right there
