The LDN is pretty active right now N and NW of the center, quite a few positive strikes. Of course this is only capturing CGs, completely missing all the in-cloud stuff. But tracking that area of instability takes it right across eastern New England. Not sure we'll squeeze it as far N as NH (not North Haven), but it might be close.

Can also kind of see why we have had some crappy snowgrowth/ratios here by looking at 800-750mb EPVg msp.  It's fantastic we have a great deal of frontogenesis at the 850mb level but when looking jsut above that layer into the 800-750mb level we see some positive values of EPVg...this suggests that the upward vertical motion and the frontogenesis is not being fully enhanced.  However, we see just to the NW of the circulation some pretty hefty negative values which are moving into the region...once this occurs, along with steepening mlvl lapse rates the upward vertical motion will be enhanced and snowgrowth/ratios will vastly improve and we will rip like crazy...already seeing this occur based on obs.

Snow's been having a tough time in N CT. Ripping here but BDL and other places toward the border in N Tolland, N Hartford, and N Litchfield are struggling.

Whenever you do measurements please post...I've been doing every hour on the half hour but when I went out at 5:30 snow was starting to drift and since my area kind of sucks for measuring it's going to be extremely difficult to get a highly accurate measurement.

Looking at the temps here, I remember back to the morning of February 9, 1978 in New London.  I ran into my parent's room where they had one of the old mercury thormometers with some type of sensor than ran out the window on a wire.  I woke up my old man excitedly telling him how much snow there was outside and that it was only 20* (or some such thing).  His response was something like "it's hard to get a snowstorm when it's that cold".  In retrospect, it's just hard to get a snowstorm in New London.

But, it is a chilly snowstorm tonight.
