So..... as it appears... the "sleet" over S CT isn't actually all sleet. I think we're actually getting some hail/graupel from convection that's ripping in the low levels. Looks like there's enough (and upright) enough convection to do it. 

 

GORGEOUS inertial gravity waves just ripping at the top of the boundary layer around 2kft.
