Love how the radar is uniformly darkening from mass straight up into maine and nh.  This is about to get very very good.

5:15pm 3 inches.  moderate snow but really bad visibility.  The wind is getting really gusty now, more than I expected.  The flakes are small so I am calling it moderate.  I would imagine snow growth improves once the coastal takes over.  Man Portland has been in a heavy band basically all day.  3 feet for them?

I do as well.

That band has been over mid coast Maine and inland for the whole day!  You guys probably jackpot for this region.  We are slowly ramping up here....wish it wasn't getting dark.  Going to go sit in our neighbors outdoor hot tub in a little while.  Snowmobiles come out tomorrow.  What are you up to and who has the most over there so far?  Portland hit 10 yet?

Reflectivity and Velocity from Amherst---

Keep in mind velocity is folding at 16 m/s but you can see how the orientation of the isodop shifts with height and how it's indicative of north winds at the surface, east aloft.   Also, I've shut off the ground clutter filter to examine orographic effects, so the red blotches are mountains, and you'll notice areas of near zero velocity in those regions.

Finally some heavier echoes are moving in after being ~15-20 dbz most of the day.

Despite the radar indicating barely 1 level green up here in Ayer (although the trend is to green us all over with multiple levels...) we are 1/4 mil vis in snow and blowing snow.  I just measured 2.5".   1.25 fell in 1:15, so inch/hr here.   The cold must be contributing...

It's nasty, with plumes of snow blowing by and the street lamp down to just a pale yellow orb at times.
