I actually had a very similar amount of water content sometimes. It was very very fluffy.

SSC I must have missed it..what was YBY final total? Its a shame its just another "run-of-the-mill" 10" at YYZ lol.

12.2" imby. Oh, and it's much worse than that at Pearson. I go into the climo logs this morning and I see what Pearson recorded yesterday. Just 8.8". So that 10" total did include Thursday's snow. But get this, the snow that fell yesterday was on 0.91" liquid. In a storm that was mostly dry powder with some bursts o 20:1 type fluff snow during the heavier parts, Pearson recorded a sub 10:1 ratio :lmao:. No other pcpn type fell so I know that's their SLR. Freaking incredible. Haven't had to shoot off an email to them since Feb 11th of last year but I think it's time.

Other prelim reports from the City of Toronto proper:

downtown: 11.0"

EC HQ: 11.8"

East York: 13.4"

Congrats to our ON posters. Thanks for sharing the pictures. I can never get enough of them. I'm happy for all of you, but especially SSC, our long-suffering friend who has hung in here on this board through thick and (mostly) thin.

Thanks IWXwx. This was a really satisfying storm. Kinda sucks that I won't be able to add to the snow cover with the mild up on the way, but beggar can't be choosers.

Nothing surprises me anymore with regards to Pearson's snowfall measurements. Even a few mets (eg. Chris Scott) from the The Weather Network (through their Twitter feeds) were concerned about Pearson low-balling. I think Environment Canada should/will change the snowfall of 22.4 cm to 23.2 cm, though it should be higher.

East York reported 34 cm (14.2 cm up to 8 am yesterday + approx 20 cm after 8 am yesterday). Downtown recorded 20.3 cm (up to 9 or 10 am yesterday). I'm guessing the storm total downtown will be over 30 cm. Through the eye-ball method, I'd say a good 12-14" (30-35 cm) fell downtown.

That's pretty bad at Pearson. Fire away (an email).

How'd you fair Alan?

About 8 inches with yesterdays's storm added to the existing 3-4 inch snowcover and we have about a foot on the ground.at least IMBY.  Plan is to do some x-country skiing today.  Trails are open for the first time this season.  Great pics from Toronto, Hamilton and Kitchener - also shouldn't forget Geos in Chicagoland.  Finally looks legitimately wintry outside.   Reading about 30+" in places in New England.  Just wow...................

Thanks so much everyone for sharing all the snow porn shots and all the great content in the storm threads.  So thrilled for the Toronto Gang and hopefully they along with who else hasn't had a good event this winter has one knocking on their door soon this month.

Few pics from around the yard from the cell phone on friday evening I'm embarrassed to put up after all the quality shot in this thread..

Almost forgot..  Congrats to Geos for keeping the faith and taking LOT to the woodshed!!

Just saw that! Adds some credibility to our complaining. Not just slant sticking weenies griping about accurate official snow measuring.

I know emailing sounds *****-ass but what else can I do? I guess I could go to YYZ and stand by the runway with a placard that says "down with lowballing". But what's the over/under on how long it takes the cops to pick me up? 18 seconds?

I think an email works fine.

So 12.2" final for YBY...very nice. :)

Thankfully the NAM with that uber tight southern cutoff didn't verify for you guys.

Final measurement in MBY is 13.1". I live about 10 minutes from Pearson and there's more than 10" here.

Very nice storm here. This morning looks picturesque with all that white gold.

And I live 10 minutes from Pearson in the other direction and I'm super confident in my 12.2". I know 2 or 3 inches doesn't sound like a lot, but after 13 years of doing imby measurements, I can tell the difference between a 10" snowfall and a 12" snowfall just my looking at my lawn and walking around in it.

In hindsight, how would you rate the model performance for this storm? Just curious.

Within D3 the models were all amazingly similar in how the larger scale synoptics would play out and all had excellent intra-model consistency. In the med. range, EURO reigned supreme. It basically pinned the strength of system and it's hybrid interaction with the southern stream from D7 and never wavered. GEM also picked up on those key factors shortly thereafter. NAM/GFS get an F beyond 72 hours. Way too flat and progressive with the northern wave and showed no interaction with the coastal, because, I don't even think they had it (or it well south and OTS).

EURO doesn't get unscathed though. 1.25"+ QPF amounts were too high. Had the same problem with the December 27th storm. NAM was also way too high but that's to be expected. As usual, the driest model, in this case the GFS, ended up being the most accurate. Luckily for me the driest model = ~1.00" QPF. :)

I can just picture the neighbors watching a guy tromping around in his yard, hand to chin, contemplating whether it is 11 or 12 inches.... :)

The life of a weather fan...my neighbors watch me walk around with a ruler measuring 30 different spots.... :P

EC sucks ass. Like honestly, thats the lowest compared to any station in the GTA. Did you see the "snow on the ground" ....its 8cm. 8 ****ing cm???? -__- something seems fishy

Their forecast called for 15-25cm originally for Toronto, they'll change a few numbers here and there so they could filter between their forecast and the final numbers. EC needs to revise alot of their final numbers from yesterday's storm. I'm disappointed. I'm sending a complaint email. 26cm now that makes sense.

I'm going to Pearson today to drop off my friend, i'll get to the bottom of this.

The 8cm on the ground was valid 7am 2/8. The number is fine.

It's not an EC problem. It's a Pearson problem. If I subscribed to your conspiracy theory, then why did EC allow all those 30-40cm amounts into their storm summary? They didn't forecast 30cm+ for anyone.

Oh, and in regard to your last sentence...lol.

Alright thats reasonable i guess (8cm on the ground).

Well the Vaughan stations had amounts similar to what i had recorded yesterday so i dont see the discrepancy in my numbers. I measured in 7 locations just to be sure.

They often skew the numbers imo so it fits with their forecast lol. But either way that 22cm is awfully low. Every other station in the GTA was higher. I mean you live 10 mins away from YYZ and you got 30cm.

Plows came through yesterday evening. Spent 90 minutes shoveling this morning. It is gorgeous outside. Clear, blue skies, 19F, sun glimmering off a fresh, deep snowpack.

I think it's fitting that TWC christened this storm "Winter Storm Nemo" given this storm was southern Ontario's "dream storm"!!

I have a feeling we get a march 07 repeat ;)

Lol! :lmao:

2 of my neighbors know I measure snow and send in the reports. The mail lady saw me measuring the overall depth in the front yard yesterday and commented!

Nice snowfall map of Ontario, SSC. You should send that into EC and show them how ridiculous their "official" total at YYZ looks amongst the local area!
