Rossi It will be at OZ - as long a sthe Euro is there we are rock solid. Rossi Dude I closed this last nite , you are fine , the Euro smashed everyone 4 days out ... I said it 2 nites ago the Euro is at the finish line and the GFS is the fat kid that everyone is waiting for to cross the line so they can go home . ace0927
18z NAM prec (4).png just checked soundings for JFK from the 18Z NAM...and they wouldnt be anything but snow from 24 hours and on. Only the surface, 34.3F at 24hrs and 900MB at 1.2 are over freezing the entire event.
Ericjcrash
18z NAM prec (4).png 2" of sleet to 2' of snow? Hell yeah!
jm1220
18z GFS is an obvious outlier WRT QPF A compromise between the Nam and GFS seems like a good spot right now. Euro has been rock solid and even continuing to amplify-that seems like a great outcome.
green tube
interesting so now I know why Mt Holly is hedging with the 6-10 forecast. mt. holly as well as upton have an annoying habit of wording snow forecasts like this.... friday night: snow 5 to 9" saturday: Snow likely, mainly before 10am. The snow could be heavy at times. no mention of expected accumulation for saturday.
SnoSki14
I would actually be happy with 6 to 10, it will easily make this winter much better.
bluewave
Really darn impressive to see hurricane force wind warnings from Moriches Inlet to MTP. http://forecast.weather.gov/showsigwx.php?warnzone=ANZ350&warncounty=marine&firewxzone=&local_place1=17NM+SE+Riverhead+NY&product1=Hurricane+Force+Wind+Warning
Brian5671
The GFS is at the low end of all the QPF guidance the NAM , EURO , EURO ens and SREF are all plus 2 . be careful taking too much away from this . lets see who corrects at 0z And being a tad warmer at the surface is a function of not being as robust . The others make this a bomb the GFS is less than that . The NAM will certainly cut it's total, it's tradition....
jamesny
Nick Gregory just showed 12-16" cutting through Northern Manhattan and Northern Queens. 7-12" for southern areas.
stockmanjr
Just hearing from a reporter ABC7 that the MTA plans to operate at full service during the storm in NYC...That didn't work out well for them last time hopefully they'll change their mind. stockmanjr
Yeah I mean totally they don't run anything above ground like a bus or elevated subway. It's not like there will be any flooding... the subways should be totally fine.

WintersGrasp
I'm thinking the final, realistic totals for NE NJ and NYC will be in the 11 to 14 inch range. NW of us might get a 14-18 inch band and certainly into CT/eastern LI/MA, etc will have a WIDE SPREAD 18-36". Highest amounts I expect to be around 45"

stockmanjr
Buses and 18" of snow do NOT mix. We saw what happened in 2010 with buses being stuck and also people being trapped on elevated subway lines. MTA should shutdown all elevated lines and suspend buses. WintersGrasp
I'm expecting a trend back east on the 00z NAM close to where the GFS is and the GFS to hold serve but up amounts a bit....all in all.....around a foot for us I'm loving it
