LehighValleyBlizzard
I have a BS in Physics from Penn State but have always loved Meteorology and want to work in the field but am not sure in what capacity. Any advice??

AtticaFanatica
If you want to work in weather research and get an advanced degree, you should have a leg up in getting RA offers from quality graduate programs. A lot of meteorology graduate programs are known to aggressively pursue those with an undergraduate degree in math or physics.
isohume
One of our lead forecasters is a physics major and he needed to satisfy the AMS meteorology requirements in order to bid on NWS openings. I'm not sure exactly which additional courses he had to take, but you can look at the link below to see which courses you would need.http://www.opm.gov/policy-data-oversight/classification-qualifications/general-schedule-qualification-standards/1300/meteorology-series-1340/
wi_fl_wx
Definitely to go graduate school. It's almost impossible to find a meteorology job without at least Master's degree these days. Plus, the education is free if you get an assistantship so it is well worth the time. It's already too late for this year so you should aim for fall 2014. Try to get a good GRE score, especially verbal. Also do something meteorology-related or at least physical science-related in the meantime to prove that you are interested in the field--or if you are still in school, take some undergraduate meteorology classes. nrgjeff
BS in Physics and an MS in Meteorology should set you up well. Some computer science electives would be great too. Did you already take some meteorology at PSU? Sometimes they will let non-majors take a couple as electives. Some say Meteorology jobs are hard to find; however, I'd say that operational forecasting jobs are hard to find. Plenty of new opportunities otherwise. The entrepreneurial engine is still going strong if you have a Master's degree. Good luck!
