If someone posted the 24 hr nam/gfs/euro and said there would be a historic snowstorm in the next 2-3 days I would have laughed at them.  Such a non-monster looking pattern.

I thought the opposite.    It was easy to see that a major low should develop near the EC,  the only question to me was whether it escaped east.

There's no question in my mind that *as modeled* that would verify blizzard conditions for the eastern 1/3rd of SNE

 

 

Yeah, it would be impossible not to... 

 

Remember folks, the current definition for a blizzard no long caries required temperature and wind; it purely visibility determined, and it has to be 1/4 or less for 3 consecutive hours, which would likely be achieved a couple times across as system of this ilk.

No, wind is still component...just not sustained anymore. Frequent gusts over 35mph are required along with the visibility component.

I thought it was just temps that aren't criteria any longer, winds sustained or frequent gust of 35 or hogher and 1/4 mile vis for sustained 3 hours
