free_man
If someone posted the 24 hr nam/gfs/euro and said there would be a historic snowstorm in the next 2-3 days I would have laughed at them. Such a non-monster looking pattern. I thought the opposite. It was easy to see that a major low should develop near the EC, the only question to me was whether it escaped east. Typhoon Tip
There's no question in my mind that *as modeled* that would verify blizzard conditions for the eastern 1/3rd of SNE Yeah, it would be impossible not to... Remember folks, the current definition for a blizzard no long caries required temperature and wind; it purely visibility determined, and it has to be 1/4 or less for 3 consecutive hours, which would likely be achieved a couple times across as system of this ilk. No, wind is still component...just not sustained anymore. Frequent gusts over 35mph are required along with the visibility component.

Tropopause_Fold
I wouldn't even worry about mix at boston with the ageo flow Boston would only mix maybe sometime between noon and 6pm Friday. I don't see it as likely though. I'd think instead it could be a 30-34F snow though for a time

Tropopause_Fold
One of the keys to this is the antecedent air mass is very good - for multiple reasons. And the HP doesn't really budge. This isn't marginal low level cold. And despite the mid-levels trying to warm out ahead of the northern steam feature, I really think mix is relegated to a very small area. Right "A severe weather condition characterized by high winds and reduced visibilities due to falling or blowing snow." Nothing too special about that definition - haha

mahk_webstah
I imagine that reasonably small track changes can impact type and jackpot areas. But beyond that I doubt it.
