Bob Chill
I'm not a superstitious person but for god sakes who sold our snow souls? We're crying over clippers not giving us a dusting. Ji is starting threads about rainstorms. Members are willing it to rain so they can clean the salt off their rusty 1985 Chrysler K cars. Snow shovels are sad and lonely in the garage covered in spiderwebs. Severe threads are popping up. The last 2 winters have been one extra large bag of WTF. das
Temp in Clarksburg rose to 32.3F at 10am (34.1F now). That was 112 hours of below freezing obs, somewhat short of the 140 hours of sub-freezing obs from last weeks' cold snap. the two cold periods could not have been more different though. Deck Pic
I hear the Nina comin'It's rolling round the bendAnd I ain't seen a snowstorm since I don't know when,I'm stuck in Snowless prison, and time keeps draggin' onBut that pattern keeps a rollin' and we get rained uponWhen I was just a baby my mama told me. Son,it doesn't snow in DC, just 90 degrees and sunBut I chased some snow near Reno, DC won't even tryWhen I hear that Nina blowing, I hang my head and cry..Well if they freed me from this prison,If that K/U storm was mineI bet I'd move it on a little farther down the lineFar from Snowless prison, that's where I want to stayAnd I'd let that lonesome blizzard blow my blues away..... Bob Chill
It would be fun Ian but I kinda suck at severe analysis so I would end up sitting in the back of the car drinking 30 packs all day. I'm pretty entertaining for the first 10-12 beers or so but later in the afternoon you would probably drop me off in a ditch in the path of an f3 while softball sized hail comes raining down. On second thought, that kinda sounds fun too....I'll get back to you.

Bob Chill
Being content sitting in a car and doing nothing is the most critical aspect! lol- all jokes aside I would totally dig the experience. I've thought about it many times before. I've been intrigued by exciting weather since birth. I think I'm wired for it. But, there is ZERO chance wifey would let it fly. I have 4 kids under 18. Chasing tornados is off the table till they're gone. My first chase will be the same year I buy another motorcycle. Maybe my first chase will be on a motorcycle. THAT would be something. clueless
In '04 or '05 drove up to NYC in a nice snow event. I think it was January. The turnpike in northern NJ was pure snow. Made it into the city around 6 pm. It was glorious. The snow was falling and the streets were practically empty. We sidled into a wood panel bar next to MOMA and had some cocktails with the locals. Great time. Sigh.

WEATHER53
I don't think this is clearly anything. Absolutely. The predisposition toward pessimism, negativity and the perpetualization of whining continues to astound me even after a decade of weather board participation. It would seem that weather enthusiasts could gather for discussions of weather events with maybe 50% of the conversation oriented toward "it can happen" but that has Never been the case at any of the weather boards. WEATHER53
My take on participating in Winter Weather discussions for the DC area. .I already know it's difficult to get sizable snows in the DC area. It happens, at times hugely, but mostly 4 out of every 5 winters around here produces small amounts of snow and moderate temperatures. So-to me there is really nothing useful is having the conversation dominated by "it's not gonna snow" I already know how tough it is around DC snow wise and there is no talent being used in telling me so. This Friday event has a well placed low pressure and strong high pressure to the north and to me that is something positive and worth talking about.
