CAPE
Love the QPF bullseye right through Baltimore, more rain for us yay. Meh we can use the heavy rain to wash away the massive accumulation of salt and sand on the roads. Guess they got bored waiting for an actual snowstorm. TUweathermanDD
Wondering why the gfs cuts east the way it does, hmm. Other models were going west, gfs has been east
RevWarReenactor
Not sure about soundings, but surface temps are above freezing at 36 when it shows some precip with cold 850s. Clown maps show 1" for central/northern MD. If I was in Harford or Cecil counties, I'd have a bit of hope...NAM, GFS, Euro (0z) and SREFs all show 1" or more. Thanks for the update up this way..... im in Northeast Cecil.. Even 1 inch would be our biggest snowfall to date. I'll take it.

MDstorm
and then it promptly cuts east after 21 hrs lol If I had a dollar for every post that you initially say looks good-----only to take it back a few minutes later----I'd have enough money to move somewhere where it actually snows. Ian
the complaining when many southern new englanders get 12-16" will be unbearableif they're dumb enough to hug the nam they deserve it.

Ian
Beware of the GFS. Never toss it.the gfs is still pretty good even last night on the bad run. they are just whiny babies whose lives are based off how much snow they get.

WinterWxLuvr
I'll bet there will be a surprise with this somewhere. Whether that's DC, Balt, ne Maryland, whether it's front end, back side, I don't know, but i'll bet it happens. I'm out, so don't think this is just some weenie post. WinterWxLuvr
If by surprise you mean 2" then I think you are right. Yeah, I'm not talking a foot, but if somebody over in that area gets a decent winter event, I'm not going to be surprised.

Cant see it happening on the front end. There is a slight chance on the back-end with wrap-around, but that works out like once every 20 years. I got 3 inches from that April 97 storm...so maybe its time.
MDstorm
yeah still not great but the low is going south.. reacharound! the models suck at that range anyway so anything is possible. SNE gets rain next week per GFS---can't be right. MDstorm

FrederickWX
Nice storm for them, while we continue to chase flurries, rainstorms, and fantasy storms. We've had good snowstorms north, south and west of us this winter. The DC Snow Shield continues it's two year run of unyielding strength. All hail the shield!! psuhoffman
if they're dumb enough to hug the nam they deserve it. To be fair to them, they have had the euro all along, then for a time had the GGEM, NAM, and GFS for a run or two advertising 2 ft plus for their area. Now the GGEM and GFS has backed off significantly to more of a typical 12-18" type storm. They still have the euro and NAM and of course are hugging them. Its not like they have alwayws only had the NAM, and even now they still have the euro for another 50 minutes at least... I can see how yesterday when all guidance was trending towards a massive snow and the euro had been rock solid with that solution for several runs, that they bought in and now its hard to let it go. Yes in the end they will get a foot or more and should be happy but it still hurts to have a historic event right in front of you then have it kind of slip away at the last minute. Rooting against them just because we are not getting snow seems kinda petty to me. I root for NYC and Boston to miss a storm if it means they miss it to the south or the storm cuts further west thus we get snow here...but I have never been interested in rooting for a storm to go OTS and miss everyone just because I am not getting snow. EastCoast NPZ
Boston will get more snow in a 2 hour period than we have seen the past 2 years Don't worry, this won't be the last time they cash-in during the upcoming pattern.
psuhoffman
Don't worry, this won't be the last time they cash-in during the upcoming pattern. if this ends up being a Feb 1969 repeat after what we have been through the last 2 years alreayd, then we have a right to think God hates us. usedtobe
the euro rakes us..how much snow at the beginning if any? Need to know the 950mb temp to know. 850 won't help you, the surface will some but the real heat early is at 950 mb or so.

psuhoffman
I'm assuming it is warm...How cold do we need 950?...can we get snow at +1? we got an inch of snow the other day from those convective snowshowers that came across northern MD with the front with temps around 37 degrees. BUt it was snowing at a crazy rate, golf ball size flakes and such so...I guess it depends how hard it is snowing.
