Sundog
Rapid City with 13F, -6F wind chill, 0.5 mile visibility with snow/blowing snow. Accumulations there expected to end up well over a foot. What goes up here goes down there, and vice-versa. Problem is the vice versa part doesn't happen all too often. Cold, especially anything that lasts more than a couple of days has been hard to come by. I wouldn't mind the record highs if we got a similar amount of record lows. Santa Claus
Taylor Nebraska. 22f and a severe tstorm warning. http://forecast.weather.gov/MapClick.php?map.x=272&map.y=130&site=lbf&zmx=1&zmy=1 I was just about to bring this up, I've never personally seen severe thunderstorm warnings and winter weather advisories in the same place before. Pratt, Kansas had a high of 64 today and has an expected low of 19. Wondering what this will do to the crops out there, I have no idea what's planted and how much its grown. It was 85 on campus today. I played frisbee. Looking forward to some severe weather tomorrow, fingers crossed

Cold, especially anything that lasts more than a couple of days has been hard to come by. I wouldn't mind the record highs if we got a similar amount of record lows. As for the present weather, Rapid City has about the same latitude as Montpelier, Vermont, an elevation of 3200 feet, and is in the middle of the N. American continent...so things are not exactly on equal footing. As for the number of record lows...it is likely the same out there as it is around here...though "around here" doesn't include some of the local airports whose climate records have been profoundly distorted by the UHI. Weathergun
I could be wrong but I belive the front is still hung up by Boston.. I belive thats why we're still supposed to be near 80 today. The main front is right over our area currently. But the 6z NAM has another wave coming along front pushing further north later this morning. Sea-breezes though will be keep coastal locations cooler than yesterday:

We had a Severe Thunderstorm Warning with heavy rain and marble sized hail, then the rain quickly changed over to Heavy Snow and we got about 8" of snow. One of the very rare Severe Thunderstorm Warning and Winter Storm Warning combos. Really awesome to see the hail as well, one of the largest hail storms I've ever experienced.
