pazzo83
And just think last year grass was growing by now. Lol Seriously though, a lot of trees are budding around here. It's kinda weird with the snow on the ground.
Allsnow
Seriously though, a lot of trees are budding around here. It's kinda weird with the snow on the ground. That really has nothing to do with warmth. It's a seasonal thing. Yes warm weather can speed the process
SnoSki14
No budding yet, It would be interesting to see images comparing now to last year at this time and note any differences with regards to the growing season.

Dsnowx53
Just a reminder that we got snow tonight, on March 19th, and this is what the H5 map looked like. http://mag.ncep.noaa.gov/gfs/00/gfs_namer_000_500_vort_ht.gif Carry on. That's pretty incredible. What an ugly look!
Allsnow
That's pretty incredible. What an ugly look! But it does not snow or stick after march
TWCCraig
Trees have been budding here since February. Especially the oaks. There's one tree on the my street corner that always blooms early, it already is blooming with red buds. Tulips and Dandelions have been growing here since January. Still not as bad as last year, where the trees started blooming in January. But it's not necessarily the temps that cause trees and plants to bloom early, it's actually more dependent on the length of day.
nzucker
That's pretty incredible. What an ugly look! That map has a monster -NAO with a 50/50 low. There's shortwave ridging ahead of the Midwest shortwave but it's a nice blocking look.

Kaner587
looks like maybe some more mood snow late wednesday night into thursday on the 18z gfs. Maybe totaling around 0.1-0.15 and possibly a coating of snow but still nice to see.
Snow_Miser
Maybe it's the weenie inside me, but I find it pretty interesting that the GFS has been signaling for a storm system around the 2nd of April for 3 consecutive runs now.

Kaner587
Surprised no one has mentioned this but the March 8th storm was rated as a NESIS 3.05 category 2/Significant. Pretty impressive that while only 1 KU truly impacted our area greatly, we were affected by 2 KU's this yr.

Snow_Miser
I also noticed it keeps pushing back any true spring warmup every model run. Yeah, goes to show that there still really isn't any sign of a true spring warm up on the horizon quite yet.
Snow_Miser
The 18z GEFS also have a pretty strong signal for a storm around the 2nd of April:
SACRUS
Yeah, goes to show that there still really isn't any sign of a true spring warm up on the horizon quite yet. It seems like any warm up before the second week of April will likely be short-lived bewteen trough amplification. That brief warmup could occur by 3/29 - 3/30. As far as getting back to normal and even above normal for any sustained period I think we're still beyond 2 weeks and probably closer to 3. We might get a brief warm up beginning of April, and then another chance towards mid-April. Other than that, there's going to be no significant warm up's over the next 20 days. The CFSv2 has us below average for the next 4 weeks. We'll be lucky to squeeze in a 60 degree day, but that is unlikely atm. And it still continues with a -NAO through mid-April. NorthShoreWx
Just had a flash of lightning and rumble of thunder with that approaching cell over the north shore of NW Suffolk. Looks like it will only last 10 minutes, but it should be interesting. http://radar.weather.gov/radar.php?rid=OKX&product=N0R&overlay=01100011&loop=yes
MJO812
The AO right now is -6. This has to be a new record. It is forecasted to rise to around neutral or even above that around the 1st week of April. I think we will start seeing warmer temps around the 2nd week of April.
