Given how this March will be compared to last March it would be interesting to compare things like temperatures and even the growing season differences. Last March was more like April with growth well ahead of schedule.

Yeah +9 and major warm stretch from the 9th to the 24th. We probably won't see 60 for at least 10 days and possibly not til the very end of the month. Amazingly last March had 17 days at 60 or above.

Even though NYC temperature departures have leveled off after the chilly start, we should see the largest negative departures of the season with today being close to -10F. These should continue until at least 3/25. I think we could get an overrunning event which is cold enough like 3/24/2011 which had a similar -NAO...the city didn't get much but we had 3.25" in Westchester. This could be a little colder given the stronger -MAO and the EPO block.

Wow. Looks like 70 in Rapid City, SD and near 0 north of Fargo, ND

Not as unusual as you would think...the Dakotas are often the scene of sharp thermal contrasts...with the western part of S. Dakota being rather elevated....shallow frigid air masses often come out of Canada well to their east...then add the Chinook effect of the Black Hills and 50 degree plus variations across the two states are not rare at all.

This weather feels (and looks) very similar to what winter is like in Santiago, Chile.  Highs around 7-9C and lows around 1-3C, overcast almost always (there it is incredibly smoggy in the winter due to the regional topography, climate, and industrial presence), and just kind of bleh.  Too chilly to be pleasant and to warm for any meaningful winter precip.  Hope everyone enjoys!!

today was the 53rd day with a minimum 32 or lower in Central Park...we need eight more to not finish in the top ten for the least amount of freezing days in a season...Last year set the record for the least amount with 37...
