To those of you too young to remember March 2001.... this is almost exactly how the mood unfolded.  Only difference was that almost every major media outlet was calling for up to two-three feet of snow.. and we all woke up to the conditions you see outside your window now....with the on air mets explaining that it was a two-part storm.  Most of us still ended up with a few inches, but the expectations were ridiculous.

Fortunately, it seems like everyone has a more tempered approach in 2013  :snowing:

Growing up in the Bronx I def remember those horrid winters in the 80s smh..

Were they just as bad up here?

I think they were alittle better up here, so probably even better in orange. Luckily the 90s made up for it when i was in HS lol

I remember a decent portion of the 80s winters...talk about a lack of snow days from the mid-late 80's, LOL.

Back when my parents could actually say "winters were so much worse when we were kids"....then the 90s came and crushed that idea lol

I am actually hoping the storm misses us entirely. A graze would likely mean rain or light non-accumulating snow, which are both useless. A slightly bigger hit probably means a slush storm, which has been the story of this winter. I would root for a big hit (1 ft+) but I don't want the storm if it is less than that. Since my high school friends are coming back to NYC for break, I really don't want a nuisance snowfall or rain to wet the fields. I was looking forward to playing some outdoor sports and the only way I would wish for snow would be if the snow were memorable hit. And such a hit looks unlikely. Given my luck this winter, NYC probably gets 3 slushy inches that make the fields unplayable this weekend.

I'm sure it was a little better up here than down there but I recall plenty of ice events rather than snow and getting 3-6" was a big deal nevermind a double digit snowfall which we very hard to come by.

Thats why I loved 93-94 so much.  Sure we had the the December 92 storm and the March 93 storm but the 93-94 winter was solid from December right through March.  I measured a 17" snowpack in my backyard on St. Patricks Day 94 ironically enough.

It was epic particularly out in State College when I was a freshman there. Snowiest winter on record, over 108". Snow on ground from 12/21 through the end of March. We had at least one decent snow event every week. Got 28" from the March 2nd-3rd event and had a snow depth around 3 feet. I can literally say in my day I walked a mile uphill in the snow to get to school :-)

Yea. I dunno. This is really bizzaro. Its still early. I want to see what's happening around 8-9 tonight before I start to throw out the bust word for today's gig. My gut is tellin me we are getting something tonight and overnight.

This board really amazes me with some of the comments and attitude towards these storms. You just can't call a bust or put the ax in the head so early in the game. Have to give it some time. We could get 0 or we could get a thump of 6 overnight. Have to wait and see.

And now I'm gonna rant a little more.. some of you dudes or dudettes that comment on the models as they run, really just need to sit back and keep your fingers off the keyboard! Its going south.. no, its well north.. etc.. really ? If you don't know exactly WTF your looking at, don't post and let it ride out. 12 hour into a run and the.. ohhhhh this gonna be wayyy south and then at 30 it ends up slamming places **** needs to stop.

And then the Debbie downers when the storm is 48 hours out... just tells me what kind of person you REALLY are and sometimes ..again.. you need to keep your little digits off the keyboard. I know its an open forum and freedom of speech but still.. some of the **** that a few of you post is just absurd..

OK... rant is off for now. Thank you very much!

It used to be standard protocol that one person did a play by play when an important model run was coming out. For some reason everyone feels the need to chime in and you get people that don't know what they're looking at but want to be the first one to 'call it'

This entire storm is a huge bust, this entire winter so far has been a bust and if temps actually do reach 60 degrees on Monday like they're forecasted to - this entire winter will be over. As it should be. Put it out of its misery.

It's way better than 2011-2012 and its still too early to say bust, wait till Friday. I highly doubt we get to 60, and even so it looks to drop below normal next week.

How is it a bust when it's not even forecasted to change to snow/start snowing until after nine here, probably after ten in the city? I got a 19" blizzard, how does that make the entire winter a bust?
