Having trouble posting the NAM Snow map for 18z but sure is pretty.

The storm on the 18z GFS would make us all happy being a Hudson Valley Runner. Too bad its hour 336.

Haha...a HV runner would not make all of us in Upstate NY happy...but with the way this winter has gone, it would be a fitting ending.

I've had an experience like that at Bristol many years ago...soaking wet at the base, but heavy snow from mid-way up. Me and my buddies stayed on the top half the whole night with all sorts of new snow. Very fun!

Glad to hear someone else has experienced this.

I actually had some of the best nights in years the past few trips down there during the past week.

Andy does that shadow 2-4 zone go all the way down the thruway to the NJ border?

Yes but probably closer to 2 the farther south you go. Its not really a shadow zone just that accumulating snow across the lower elevations won't happen until late tomorrow night like after 8-9 PM maybe not until 11 PM

Thanks. I'm up at around 1K down here so I was more worried about the potential shadowing than the accumulation issues. Upton has the whole county at 6" or thereabouts but I think you are more realistic. I never trust any storm that dilly-dallies in getting going and with the main batch not gaining latitude, there is lots that has to come together tomorrow night to throw that kind of moisture back this far west from an out to sea storm and a strong easterly fetch.

Around 2" here, Albany must be approaching that by about now.

Very light snow and 40F in downtown ALB.  Looks like some downsloping off the southern Greens on radar.  Still low dps... hoping we saturate and cool.  Doubtful the valley sees much accumulating snow until at least evening.

The wife reports heavy snow at home with "serious thunder."  We are basically on the western boundary of Delaware County where the northerly flow meets the southerly flow (convergence?).  Not a flake in Binghamton yet.

Very cool.  The radar looked pretty good there at the time but I wouldn't have expected that!

6.1" at home at 5:30.  Not too bad, but it will be gone soon with nothing but the 40's forcasted.

We also ended up around 5-6" but the wind blows stuff around so much at the house it's hard to guess without walking down to the sheltered area of the property.

For me, I think this will be remembered as the winter that could have been. We have fairly consistent cold, including a week of "extreme" cold.  After the thaw in early January everything stayed frozen solid into March (and still is).  At least I had fun on the pond at our new house....despite barely snowmobiling this winter.

First heavy snow ob of the year at ALB!

KALB 081351Z 35010KT 1/4SM R01/1800V2400FT +SN FZFG VV007

Walking outside for a bit I thought we were close to heavy.  Temp creeping above freezing.  About 6" on the ground and probably 7-7.5" fallen.  Nice little overperformer!

Congratz on overperformer! Seems like WNY is in screw zone for the last 4-6 weeks in terms of snowfall. I think Madison Wisconsin is at 60-70 inches on the year and most of New England is over 80 inches. Pretty crazy that the Buffalo Airport is barely at 50 inches, if that. Looking forward to near 60 degrees on Sunday. Hopefully its cold here when I am in Florida for the first week of April though. ^_^

Wow looks like a major overperformer for Albany county with widespread 9" totals.

6 inch final here. Fringe city again relative to places south/east, but we nickel and dime our way forward and now at 54" for the season.

Nice snowcover until the March sun takes a lot of it away this weekend. I'll get out early in the AM to do my4 mile snow shoe before the sun does it's dirty deed. We probably average around 8-12" in the woods here anyway.

You need a spring charge as we can't have me beat you for the season down here in the tropics.  :ee:  The 15" yesterday brought me up to 62.5". I think I'll handily beat what I would have gotten in Queensbury this year.

looks like some potential LES this coming week SE of the lakes...especially Lake Ontario.

The 12z GFS certainly agrees with that.  Quite the midweek arctic blast, modest amounts of moisture on well aligned Northerly flow with more than adequate Delta T's.

It'll be a harsh return to reality after the 60's today.  But I'll take it!

Been a crappy snow season here in the BGM area. Becoming a trend and perhaps I need to get used to it. We used to get the bulk of our snowfall from what was often a favorable inland location in coastal storms. It seems to me that these storms are trending to the east the last 5 years or so...and, for example, my brother in central LI has had way more 12+ inch snowfalls than me--which used to be unheard of. I see that Worcester, MA--generally comparable to BGM in average yearly snowfall--has had over 100 inches this season. Close to double my location. I think this is pretty sad....

I guess there's next year....

Yeah, it seems that way in Albany as well. The last time ALB has gotten over 20" was 10 years ago. The last 2 foot storm was the March '93 superstorm, 20 years ago tomorrow.

In comparision, Central Park last had a 20" storm in December 2010, as well as one during February of that same year. Their last snow storm greater than 2 feet was in February 2006.

I think it has just been an incredible stretch of historic snow events in the I-95 corridor. One of these days, the average storm track will likely shift back to the north and west as we come back to the mean.

I don't disagree with the overall trend stated here...

But two events do come to mind that managed to screw ALB and BGM I guess, but were very big.

Valentines Day 2007 and the so called Snowcane of late Feb. 2010.

In VD 2007 amounts way over two feet fell to the west of ALB. Not sure how BGM did.

In 2010 massive amounts fells with any elevation west of ALB and in the Catskills. Maybe BGM found themselves too far west barely.

But no question NE has had so many more good events in this century so far.
