Happy to be here from time to time!  My name is Jeff Jumper.  We're expanding our morning show to 5 hours...which means less time for me to forecast :(  We'll see how it pans out.  New NWS map in the past 10 mins.  Broadbrushing with a look similar to the QPF contours...

Yeah, I'm seeing melting possible only in the boundry layer.  Doesn't look like a shot at up/zr.  Always looking for input.  I may have a degree and some experience, but forecasting is a trade.  Always learning!  Plus I have to juggle the TV vs. science world too, which sometimes can be tough!

New map looks reasonable. i guess the $100 question will be how much or what we lose to rain right? not an expert but this appears to be pretty cut and dry rain/snow, little to no chance of sleet or frzn correct?

Yeah, should be rain to snow. I'm not too enthused about it...temps in the mid 40s tomorrow isn't usually a good set up down here unless it is a dynamic system. We shall see...

This lines up well with LWX's thinking.

If South-Central PA (Bedford, Fulton, Huntingdon, Mifflin, Franklin and Adams) and the LSV could cash in on this, then everybody will be able to say they got "theirs". I think we should hope for that.

Good way to look at it.

I am Joe. Fox43.  From PA most of my life but returning from a stint in the Deep South so brushing up on this winter forecasting stuff!

Hi Joe. I'm originally from York, grew up there (right near Kiwanis Lake just off Parkway Blvd). Welcome.

Being able to correctly depict what is going on in the crazy atmosphere and present it so that the "Average Joe" can understand it is a science in itself! Good to see you on here, man. Though we are from competing stations in the SQV, I think it's important that we keep the dialogue open. For this system, I would tend to agree with your call of lower amounts than what CTP is showing. I still think it's advisory level for most of our viewing area, but exactly how much QPF can go as snow is the main question.

Welcome, Joe!

Recent trend of every model moving south isn't making me very happy. Every 0z model nudged south. Grr.

It's Matt Moore, but thanks! The recent trend is disheartening, but there can be shifts late in the game to the north as well. HPC goes with a GFS/Ukie blend which painted a 1-4" type snow across the region.

Keep the dialogue open? You're television "weathermen" (sorry, I would hate hearing that term, if I were you) not Israelies and Palestinians. I would hope that reality isn't like "Anchorman" where if the two of you were to meet somewhere in the street it would be "bum fights, volume 200".

Although, I'd like that.

Big X-Factor is the changeover time which appears to be right around the evening rush hour.  When you have precipitation changing like this you get those big wet flakes plus precipitation fog which sets the stage for an interesting few hours.  Would not be surprised to see a Winter Weather Advisory for 1" - 4" of snow for MD Tier counties.

You'd be surprised. A lot of TV mets completely shut down any communication once it's realized that they are talking to another TV met in the same market. It's like we'd be spreading top secret weather info or something along those lines. It's completely ludicrous, but it happens.

You're right, Matt. Rush hour and big heavy wet flakes can slushy roads and nasty travel conditions for the evening rush.
