Met1985
06z NAM coming in even weaker and the second piece of energy does not even get down into TN and WNC. QPF is very light. Not a good trend at all. We may get 1-2 inches of snow per the NAM.
superjames1992
Don't look now, but the 6z NAM significantly upped totals east of the mountains and paints a sliver of 0.10-0.25" QPF in northeastern NC. EDIT: RGEM shows a similar look with presumably some coastal enhancement in NE NC. BL temps might be an issue, though.
Met1985
The GFS paints a much better picture than the NAM does. It has some really good snow on the TN/NC boarder and even some good snow down into NE AL and also some really good areas in North GA look like they could do really well. Also the GFS has that second piece of energy dropping down further south and that will help enhance the NWF snows.
Met1985
GFS even paints a stip of snow in the middle of NC going out to the coastal areas of NE NC. Looks like even the NW areas of the Upstate get in on some snow.
DaculaWeather
New winter weather advisories out for TN. The models, even the short range, don't seem to have a handle on how quickly the radar returns have ramped up. Even lightning strikes in some of these clouds. NavarreDon
Looks like the 6Z NAM came in with a little more moisture for the central mnts. While their will be a big disparity in snow totals from N to S. Wouldn't be surprised to see Buncombe finally end up in the WWA.

GSP is saying around 4:00pm here but it is trucking thru TN so it may be earlier.

Need to get some clounds rolling into Buncombe County before too much solar heating; sun is coming out but see a few clouds coming in from the west. It would be great to get a little more snow than expected for a change.

South of Nashville, middle TN. Family in Smithville also reporting accumulating snow. Radar shows it knockin on my door with 24 degrees. Sure hope this doesn't get wasted as rain later but it probably will.

Tacoma
i thought i would wake up this morning to a wwa for buncombe county, but its like getting blood out of a turnip to get snow in this area and in the past we've done pretty well.
MotoWeatherman
but why is it that buncombe county is not in the wwa again. its hard to believe every time we have a shot at snow everyone around us is in a wwa but not buncombe county. maybe they'll put us under one later. i was hoping for maybe a couple of inches out of this one since last night and last week was a skiffing. everyone keeps saying how good wnc as a whole looks and more precip. keeps showing up with each run.Asheville gets shadowed by 5000ft mtns on all sides except south. Downslope kills QPf in Asheville many times. When I lived there for 2 years i saw many times AVL get squat while waynesville gets 3-4 inches. It was quite annoying to see happen over and over. In fact the valley where Asheville sits is one of the driest parts of the state.
