I've noticed that also. IDK, but lately that seems to be the problem. And I agree that it is dry air..
RogueWaves
Wonder if there's any lake enhancement beefing up the clipper in the same areas that have been getting LE the past few days. Nasso much on this one as on Saturday's, but here's (an incomplete) high-lights list for SWMI: 0700 AM SNOW 5 SSW GRAND RAPIDS 42.90N 85.70W 02/04/2013 M2.0 INCH KENT MI COCORAHS 24 HOUR SNOWFALL. SNOW DEPTH WAS 15 INCHES. (can vouch for this, I was up there yesterday and serious snow OTG) 0700 AM SNOW 2 W WAYLAND 42.67N 85.68W 02/04/2013 M23.9 INCH ALLEGAN MI TRAINED SPOTTER 4 DAY SNOWFALL. SNOW DEPTH WAS 10.5 INCHES. Other summary from GRR for 24hrs ending 10am were in the 1-5" range with most in the 2-4" range.

Interesting...have basically had great dendrites all day. No pixie dust to speak of. Though the best returns are moving out now.
DAFF
About 3.5" on the ground today. Snow looks to continue for a hr or two longer. Salt took care of most of it. No snow piles tonight.

Chargers09
I dont understand it seemed like you guys were getting the front end of the i94 band all morning. I walked out and there was about an inch and a half on the ground. No dendrites, just pixie dust. Seems that the dry air is always an issue east of 75. There's a difference out that way for some reason that corner of the Detroit area does not get much snow. It's always an issue one way or another with something. Probably culture shock being that you were in ARB and Livonia which usually does pretty well.
TugHillMatt
Looking forward to the clipper here tomorrow. After this and Thursday's snowfall, we will have quite the snowpack. We are currently under a Lake Effect Snow Advisory for tomorrow, where we are supposed to get 5 to 7 inches of SW flow lake enhanced snow. Thursday looks like a few more inches. Hopefully we can keep it cooler over the weekend. Over a foot on the ground currently...keep it coming!

michsnowfreak
3.3" total here. 0.11" water. Its crazy how the I-94 wins once again. 3.7" ARB, 3.1" DTW, 3.2" Dexter, 3.3" Wyandotte & Taylor. Interesting stats for here. Jan 31-Feb 4....I have totaled 9.8" of snow on just 0.36" of water. The current depth is 6". I can never remember such a prolonged period of lake-belt type snow setting up shop here (even though todays was synoptic). Few more pics I took to show the depth/texture of the snow

I think its more extreme NE Wayne because I live in extreme eastern Wayne (literally on the River) and we usually do as good, but then again longitude wise we are further west than northern Wayne and most of Macomb. Geos
SnowFreak, Reflux, and hm8 have got it going on with the pictures today! Was out most of the day retaking the GRE, so that's why I'm checked in now with a snow tally. 2.0" here. 0.16" of water, which equals a near 13:1 ratio. Moisture was a bit scant, but the snow ratios is what killed the accumulations more so. The rest of the lake flurries are now ending. 5.4" for total Clipper snow. About 4.5" on the ground.
