Me too, then I woke up and realized Arkansas was forecast to get our 6-12, while I was sitting here expecting 48 and rain, while you guys east of the apps were hanging onto the hopes of .10 of slop before warming to 34 and rain........lol

like you said, we're dreaming again.

Not uncommon for Winston-Salem Forsyth County schools to close first they are the fourth largest system in the state, 77th largest in the United States.

just seems like with a marginal event that a 2 hour delay would be great at this time and this would buy you time in the morning to evaluate the situation.  i wish the schools would do this more often the night before and then look at things in the morning as to close or not.

I think that Forsyth jumped the gun though. Lets see if others follow suit like often happens when a big district makes a decision. I doubt Guilford cancels tonight.

We could have three feet of snow on the roads already and Guilford would still wait until morning to make a decision. Of course, they'll do it with a 5:26 AM automated wake-up call that startles you out of bed.

But Forsyth did throw in the towel early though. I've seen them wait longer during more severe storms that were a near certainty.

Based on long experience freezing rain forecasts scare school systems much more than one for snow.  It does have some basis in fact as far as possible rapid deterioration of road conditions.

Wake County 3-hour delay. Come on Durham.....

Man I hate to see that.  I work in the Town of Cary Traffic Management Center and Wake County school delays make my mornings crazy.  I'll have to now go and change all the traffic signal plans for a later start time for something that will probably not be that bad.  What a pain!

Can you please come out and change the signal at Old Stage Rd. and HWY 401?  It is not a smart light. :fulltilt:   I'm tired of waiting at it when no traffic is coming.

Stop complaining. You could be one of those North Korean traffic girls instead. ;)

You can thank the guys at good ol' State DOT for that one.  I only handle the ones in Cary...LOL!

I really don't get it.  Part of me hates to second guess it, but what in the world?  If wet bulbs across the state are above freezing, how are we going to get hazardous conditions enough to warrant a 3 hour delay?  I'm seriously asking.

When I was in school, it was a one hour delay, stretched to two, if conditions warranted in the morning.  I know they have year-round and staggered start times now to consider...but three hours for what looks like a winter "event" that seems very unlikely to have a high impact (or even a low one)??

What am I missing?

There are more trial lawyers nowadays compared to when we were kids?

Ha!  Nice.  I like how all of the lights are LEDs now.  Used to, the whole light would burn out.  Now, just sections of it will.  It looks kinda weird and it seems like it would be harder to fix.

The new LED bulbs are great.  Back 20 years ago you had a crew of technicians that did nothing but go around and change bulbs.  That was back when I was in Marietta working for Cobb County DOT.

Interesting.  I don't know how the LED stuff works in traffic signals.  It appears that there's a whole panel of LEDs that make up a given light (like the red light) within the signal...and within the panel, the individual bulbs burn out over time, so you end up with a red light that sort of half lights up.  Do I have that about right?

At what point do they decide to replace that section of the light?  When 25% of it goes?  50%?  Or some other method?  Always wondered that.

That's how it works.  They don't really have and exact percentage but when 30% or so of LED's are out they'll just replace that panel.
