The 28th/ 1st storm holds potential. You are looking too far ahead.

Yep...lets hope it's the 28th storm and not the 1st...if that 1004mb storm over the lakes on the 06z comes to fruition we can write it off as cold chasing moisture

Hey guys I got a quick question. Im going to Columbia SC on fri morning leaving out of Roanoke. With potential weather can anyone tell me what kind of job they do with salting etc around the fancy gap/NC mountains area on 81 going to 77. Not sure what to do if I should take 81 to 77 or play it safe and go out of my way a little and take 220 south. Posted this in the long range as well didn't know where I should put it.

I'd think I-77 should be fine coming down the hill.  It's under the Virginia DOT since the NC border doesn't start until you get to the bottom, so I'd think they would do a good job.  It used to be bad before they built I-74 and you had to take US-52 through Mt. Airy to get to exit 7 (Fancy Gap) at the top of the hill on I-77, but now that the freeway portion of US-52 is connected to I-77 via I-74, you should be fine.

You will be missing quite a view, though.  The view coming down the mountain on I-77 is great.  On some days you can see the buildings in Winston-Salem!

I still like to take US-52 up the hill to Fancy Gap, though.  I love windy roads. :)

DISCLAIMER: I am not responsible if the roads are bad, though! ;)

Haha got you on that last part! LOL but thanks for the advice I know it's like a good 3500 ft up around that area so I guess well see how it goes then.

Looks like we have some good chances the next week for more wintry weather. I would love another March 1-2, 1980 for NC. I think we have a shot with this setup. The only thing that bothers me is when the long range shows very cold and dry it is usually right more times than not.

According to past posts, I thought when it showed warm and dry it was usually right.
