don't you just love it that snow is mentioned like 5 times in the forecast but then the dreaded little or no snow accumulation ends the sentence.  I just hate that when they do that.

gsp has been tossing out advisorys and warnings all winter long for buncombe county. Sometimes it was not even warranted.

you are correct some or all of the wsw and wwa weren't warranted at all, just kinda got my hope up for there to be nothing.  boy things have changed.  I grew up around north asheville and in the old days before the computers when the mets said snow we usually got it, and you never heard all the talk about 3500 ft and higher.  they just said its going to snow 4 inches or more and most of the time it did, I mean even here in Asheville, what they would say is 4 or more inches for asheville and 6 or more in the higher elevations.  has the atmosphere changed this much, global warming or was it just a great couple of decades for snow? talking about the 60's, 70's and 80's.  we always got quite a few major snowstorms in those days, boy its changed a lot.  I've often said what goes around comes around well I'm waiting for the come around.

There was 60 inches at the airport in the 2 winters prior to last winter. ... and they missed plenty of forecasts in years previous.

Latest model verification scores have just come out.  The NWS is trying a new method designed to make the scores more meaningful to the general public.

It starts with this photo which represents a perfect verification score of 100%.

With each error a subtle change is made in the image to represent the models failure.

You will be able to see from the images below that the Euro once again bested the GFS by a significant amount. However, neither model was something you would bring home to Momma.

Guys I have tall trees/cliffs in my backyard...I will climb them early Friday morning to check for ice to report.

You inspired me here.  I will be posting several  captioned dog photos to represent posters.  You'll have to decide who they are.  The first one is obvious.

I don't care if it is localized, Sleet is sleet and it's too dangerous to drive to school.
