Ahhhh, so IE is the problem? Thanks. I may switch browsers for posts here. However, I must ask: why is IE such a problem? Shouldn't a major browser like IE at least be accomodated for posts?

Internet Explorer is better known as Internet Exploder in my book.  I never use it for any purposes.  Firefox and then Chrome are my browsers of choice.  No problems on the web.

Question from the amateur...

When is the best time to calculate the wet bulb temp for this upcoming event? If one were to do it now it would be pretty meaningless right since the temp is about to drop? Maybe when the temp is stable with cloud cover?

I hope we have a rapid drop off before clouds move in.. 47/25 = wb 38.3 long ways to go!  But temps should fall quickly next few hours.

Yea temps are dropping we have clear skies. Blacksburg thinks they will rise after midnight...but drop again when precip hits. My wb was 38 but just checked with the next update and it is 35.

Interesting article....seems the downtrend in seasonal snowfall is expected to continue...

That's an interesting article. I'm not going to get into the whole global warming thing but I do know the RDU area does not see as much snow as it used to. Growing up here it seemed like we had atleast 1 or 2 snows a year. Now were lucky to get one every 3 years.

how did you guys come out in the winters of 09/10 and 10/11? Here in the western part of the state we more than doubled are average both years.

I wonder if there's any sort of natural long-term climate cycles that play a role in, well, long-term climate trends. I wonder if there's any solar connection to climate trends.

It seems Russia and Europe have had decent winters lately, while the US has not. But according to the article, NH snow cover as a whole has decreased, which I guess would mean (at least over the last few years) any gains over there are not enough to offset the losses elsewhere, including the US.

That's the dumbest thing I have ever read. That doesn't explain the 2009-10 or 2010-11 winter. wow two great winters and two sucky winters. So back in the late 1800s when all them damn hurricanes hit GA, Wth was that then? Climate change is BS and this is the only thing I ever agree about with JB.

RDU was slightly above average for 09/10 and 10/11 we were right average, maybe even below, going with our average of 7" per year.

2009/2010 and 2010/2011 had 1 big (6" snow) per season for RDU.  Less seasonal snowfall, bigger storms....

If you go look at the mid-atlantic seasonal snowfall the past 20 or so years it's been feast or famine for them.  For RDU we are at our lowest 30 year running average for seasonal snowfall in the past 120+ years, for as long as I have stats.  So something is going on, either that article is correct...OR...we in a cyclical pattern and things should turn around for us.  I am leaning towards a climate change, this is the new norm, less snow and we have to hope to get hit by a big one.

Yeah, I am obviously a little biased with the lack of snowy of winters for RDU, 6 of the past 9 years are under 1.5", the other 3 are right at 7.5" per season.  I keep thinking that we are going to turn things around and hit a very snowy stretch of winters but it's not happening, atleast yet.  A climate change would explain alot.

So back during the amazing winters in the 70 and 80s, weren't there huge storms producing massive snow totals?
