I'm so glad this is a board based on science and not prone to the hyperbole of all those other so called weather boards.  Here we stick to precise standardized measurements especially when it comes to our real passion - snow.  Here are a few examples from just the past few hours.  Names and location have been redacted to protect the.........innocent.

Still snowing like gangbusters in XXX.

Snowing good in XXXXXXX.

 hugh flakes

snow falling pretty hard now

 unreal rates.

Crazy heavy snow right now!

chicken feather snow flakes.

 Still hammering.

These are insane rates.

Wow crazy blowing snow here with big flakes.

Really coming down here

Unbelievable rates here

Oh boy,it's ripping now with big flakes.

can't wait until it arrives...rates should be insane.

Accumulation accelerating

If we get bigger flakes with the rates I have right now I am gonna die.

Science is a wonderful thing.

You can also add a northern coastal area in SC is getting slammed. LOL

I'm happy for the folks who received snow today (most folks saw far more drop from the sky than me). But I truly get excited about tge snowstorms that accumulate on every, single thing outdoors (roads and all). Those are the ones that seem to stay ingrained. To each, his or her own.

I recently spoke with Ryan Maue and he's a top-notch guy.  He was extremely generous and I would highly suggest the High-Def WXBell maps he showed me a few current snapshots from.  Plus the fact Joe Bastardi is around/does his blogs and videos there (although many think hes highly over-hype) it's more worth it! ;)

Operation micro snow storm was a success. Round 2 coming tonight.

hey I'll help you put in a chairlift if you let my kids come sled ;-)   Man every time I see those pics I envy that 4 board fence, it sure looks like a good one.  I just put up about 500 ft of that stuff myself  on the front side of my barn.

And glad to hear you got some flakes.  This is almost too embarrasing to admit, but yesterday I think I saw ONE flake. literally one. Not 10, not 20, not 3. just ONE.   However I could tell it was flurrying up along the Lumpkin Co. ridgeline between Springer and Suches.  I wish we had a poster on here from Suches.   Maybe one day I'll have a cabin up there and I would be the GA version of SnoJoe in NC.   While everyone else talking about flurries I'd be posting stuff like Temp 27 degrees, 4 inches new snow on the ground.

well same old same old Monday night and Tuesday rain.  we get the moisture and it turns warm, I hate this.  next week it will be cold and no moisture.  it use to not be this hard to get snow.  we need these systems to dive into the gulf or we need some systems to form in the gulf.  is the gulf of mexico closed off?  what is wrong with this weather?  is the pacific messing us up this bad?

Forgive the double post - was not sure where to place this question...

I am going to be leaving Holly Springs, GA and driving up to Beech Mountain on Tuesday to meet friends... how slippery of a drive is that going to be?  Just trying to plan - not really used to driving in snow (but will be in 4x4)...

Thanks in advance.

you are correct, you probably don't want to place a question like that in a storm discussion thread.  Anytime you go to beech you need to be prepared for anything.  They keep it pretty clear though, cause there are always people trying to get up their to go skiing.  So with 4WD you should be in good shape  (but still have to be careful if its ice which is lots worse than driving in snow).    The last mile before you get to beech can be interesting sometimes if its really coming down.  There should be no remains of this weekends snow on the roads by Tuesday, but they may be getting additional snow Tuesday.  In other words, the perfect time to go.  You also need to be careful going through (I think its Crossnore? - before you get to banner elk, where its mountainous and winding roads).     I will say this.  If you are staying at Emerald Mountain at the top Beech, be careful on the winter road entrance.   Just trust me on that one.   You shouldn't have any trouble on any of the other main roads though.

They are really good at brining, clearing, salting up there.  They have a lot of equipment cause it happens so often.   in other words, nothing like here around the ATL.

If you haven't driven in snow much, I'd say find a big parking lot up there and play around in it.  it will help your skills, plus its just plain fun, unless you get a ticket for reckless driving or hit something.

google rays weather beech mountain before you go to get a good idea of what is going to be going on up there around that time.   you can also tune to 90.5 or maybe 92.1 to get current conditions and forecast.

Also, make sure to visit Freds (thats where I'm at in my pic) and also get some pizza at the brick oven.

That is my concern - noaa and weather.gov have 100% chance of precip, but state it will be rain... not sure I trust that after all of my lurking on here... trust you all more than I do them... esp. as I have to plan travel, etc.  - no offense to them...

I was more worried about it being all snow or snow and sleet...

Guess I will check when I head out around 0500...

Thanks.

As an aside - We have been there before - I remember Rays... awesome place, as well as seeing the pizza place... will definitely have to try that place out.

Thanks again...

Beats me here in the N.Foothills. only a light dusting here this winter!!! :gun_bandana:

Had about 6 flurries here yesterday!!! lol

Mount Airy can easily capitalize on some hefty totals if things come together for a widespread event...surpassing other areas just like that. But who knows when but it is bound to happen one winter or spring.
