So on DT's facebook page, he makes a post entitled "The Ice Storm Cometh" and he uses the 180hr GFS surface map with the 850 0 line to illustrate his point.

Now there might be an ice storm. But with a 988 low over Chicago and a 1029 HP way up in NE Canada, how does that produce an ice storm for anyone outside of perhaps the upper MA or the NE?

Maybe he's arguing that HP will be stronger and farther south and that the LP will be farther south and east. I didn't read his comments that way, but maybe I'm missing something here?

I think it should be noted that this data ingest is more than likely being done because of the risk of a big storm blowing up off the NE coast. It probably has nothing to do with light snow chances in the SE.

Actually it has all the earmarks of an unofficial rule of all government agencies, Spend it or lose it.

I had a long response typed up with images but firefox crashed when loading some skew-T's off earl's site.

Basically he's talking about it coming. The image he posted he did so to demonstrate the damming signature at 850mb, not necessarily any ice occurring in that pic, yet. He thinks it could be underdone or strong at lower levels so he figures its a huge ice storm...I think he mentions GA? Majority would be for spine of the apps in WVA/VA into central VA, part of his audience. But anyway, definitely an ice storm at hour 183 or so in VA per soundings in Charlottesville, down to Roanoke, etc.

Gotcha. Thanks man. On BB, which sometimes doesn't load all the comments on FB. That makes sense if he thinks the damming is underdone. It might very well be. But I'd really like to see the evolution at H5.

it looks like a miller b with an early transfer in the south. The block is there. But the trough really amplifys out west. We will see how this plays out. Im more interested in the other waves that follow that should be weaker and the nao is more mature. Anyway if you look at h5 it looks odd. That many strong closed lows so close to each other. So how much for Franklin? Weather banter over!
