burgertime
The Jerkstore called, they ran out of you. It's not always obvious when models come out. For example, the GFS is behind the NAM even though they are the same hour, and the Euro is sometimes after that. The GFS Ensemble Members usually aren't available until about 3 hours after the GFS op has run.

JWXnc
burger, what source do you use for ECMWF? I've been waiting for Allan's site and Instant Weather Maps to update with tonight's 0z, but neither have updated yet (which is odd... they usually start updating around 1AM). POWERSTROKE
What are the biggest snow accumulations per storm in NC history outside the mountains. I know 1987, 1993, 2000, 2009. For me 17 inches in 1987

For me 17 inches in 1987Areas just inland of Wilmington area received around 24" back on Christmas in 1989. The map shows 20" but I witnessed 24" in non-drifting areas north inland of Wilmington during that storm. They never saw that one coming and back peddled variable cloudy skis with off shore showers all the way up to blizzard conditions. http://www.erh.noaa.gov/rah/events/ Other than that, the famous string of 4 March Wednesday's back in the 1960s likely takes the award in modern times. The data and clippings Robert has on that storm is some of the best I have seen on those events.
Tacoma
GSP put this out this morning. HIGH PRESSURE WILL BRING DRY WEATHER THURSDAY AND FRIDAY. THE VERYEND OF THE CURRENT FORECAST HAS BOTH GFS AND ECMWF AIMING SOME SNOWFOR AT LEAST THE NC MTNS SATURDAY OF NEXT WEEK. GFS HAS A VERY DEEPTROUGH AND ECMWF NOT SO MUCH. FallsLake
As others have stated, the problem with the SE is that with any winter storm ussually somebody gets screwed. Last night's GFS would provide a great storm for areas west of the Carolinas; the euro would be a smaller storm but would provide areas in central NC a little snow. So for NC people, the euro holds our hopes and dreams. **but never wishing others to miss a storm.
metalicwx366
That storm around the 16-17th looks interesting.Best potential for a widespread SE snowstorm we have seen all year. Euro needs to get onboard.

The more I read about this event, the more depressed I get as I realize I was born 5 years too late to witness one of ILM's all time most epic weather events. All I have instead to remember for snowfall is the 4" we got from wrap around in 2000 and the 4" we got from Feb 2000, which is still my favorite weather event I've seen (and remembered). The coast is due, ILM hasn't had 6"+ storm since 1989.

Lookout
Man on WVCB just said multiple reports of up to 6" in one hour coming from this death band in central CT. deathband.JPG Was said this morning too. Seeing the pics from this storm makes me sick. 40 inches or so being reported in spots. *puke* A few inches...is that so much to ask?

downeastnc
What are the biggest snow accumulations per storm in NC history outside the mountains. I know 1987, 1993, 2000, 2009. For me 17 inches in 1987 I would go with the Carolina Crusher and the Mar 1980 Blizzard From my standpoint I am liable to never see anything like 1980 again in my lifetime and the snow total map is way wrong on the low side for most of eastern NC. We measured the most sheltered areas we could find and averaged 24-26" here in Greenville and there were drifts 4-6' everywhere. Friends in New Bern and Washington also measured well over 20" so the totals map should prolly just continue the 20" totals south on the offical map to cover most all of eastern NC. There were places in NE NC that had to have gotten close to 30"+. Also for the state as a whole I dont think any storm has put down the totals on the entire state like this one did, the entire eastern half of the state had a foot or so and most of the west half had at least 6-10". It was snowing with thunder and the temps were in the low to mid TEENS during the day in MARCH!!!!! I would love to see a air mass able to do that again. Then there was this one but it was more localized the Crusher put it down fast and nasty.
