I believe that Powderfreak does Stowe's snow reports and I'm pretty sure that won't be spinning this much. Go back and read his posts, he knew what they were in for.

I'm not working today but there's no spinning really anywhere on any ski area sites except that everyone will be making snow and grooming heavily for the weekend. It's not spin, but more the mountain operations plan going forward.

Of course no one is going to flat out say it sucks either. There are people out enjoying themselves right now. It'd be like a restaurant saying our food is going to suck today but come on in!

yeah I got the anemometer wireless transmitter. Going to stick that up on the roof and mount the other stuff in my yard on a 4x4 fence post.

Any siting issues by doing that?  ;)

I have a couple of sensors online by I consider them just for fun not really accurate.  I'm holding out when I could get something from Young or Vaisala but even then I don't have a good place to put the sensor and meet the standards.  Temperature I could do, but not wind.

For example, my peak gusts on my cheap home unit last night were in the 40s.  I know some of them were higher than that.

At least the temp sensor I can get over grass at 6 feet so that should be good. The anemometer will be lucky to gust to 30 in a hurricane lol.

lol!

If it's not snow depths that people quibble about it's wind gusts.

This pattern has clearly gotten to most of us.

I was thinking the same thing.  Can't we just use the Beaufort Scale to estimate winds?  I've often used it to gauge wind speeds when you don't have an instrument to measure it.  It has nice anecdotal descriptions and the speed range that you're looking at.

You'd be surprised.  You might see 50...lol

In winter there's a lot more free air so if we get a good storm, it might not be that far off if it's high enough.  I was just kidding and can already see the discussions now about backyard measurements and siting as we revisit the discussion every summer.

I bought my Davis station today!! Too bad I didn't have it up in time for the wind last night. Oh well.

Nice    Now we can weenie your 77 DPs this summer lol.

This morning's 48 was just 1MPH below the all time record for our station which has been online most of the time since 2010.  The 49MPH was 2/19/11.   I think 45 is the highest I've noted in summertime convection.

I know lol. I was thinking about ground cover for underneath it. I have to do some landscaping in that part of the yard an either plant more grass seed or mulch the area and plant some flowers or shrubs. Not sure what to do around there.

Was that date the squall that produced thunder/ightning while I was skiing Wachusett?

48mph official gust at CON seems reasonable for this area.. Lots of leaves and stuff blowing around, a few branches down, isolated outages, nothing spectacular.

Snowpack is nearly completely gone, just some patchy thin coverage here and there in grassy and woods areas.

A nice heavy squall going through now--Ginxy would be proud.  Great to have the groudn whtiened again.  Actually went into Shelburne Falls--shocked to see how much snow they still have on teh ground there. A couple inches at least with very little in the way of bare spots.  Not sure how they managed to do that.

Awesome, arctic squalls are the best.
