powderfreak
I believe that Powderfreak does Stowe's snow reports and I'm pretty sure that won't be spinning this much. Go back and read his posts, he knew what they were in for. I'm not working today but there's no spinning really anywhere on any ski area sites except that everyone will be making snow and grooming heavily for the weekend. It's not spin, but more the mountain operations plan going forward. Of course no one is going to flat out say it sucks either. There are people out enjoying themselves right now. It'd be like a restaurant saying our food is going to suck today but come on in!

tamarack
Front came thru AUG about 11:25. The RA portion kind of fell apart (in AUG - looked fairly dense on the home front), but what there was came as horizontal mist in gusts 40+. Sun peeked thru holes in clouds immediately before and after fropa.

powderfreak
but awt you still have snow in the village Yes, props to you Ginxy....never really thought it had a chance but the bottom layer was already glaciated from the last thaw. Tenacious stuff even after 3/4" of rain and 50s.

Lava Rock
Vantage pro 2? Why can't why make the anemometer wireless? I'd like to stick that thing as high and far away from the house as possible but not be tied to the rain gauge.

eekuasepinniW
Wind is coming at me nicely now... very steady and the 10 minute average is 31. Most gusts are 39-45.

I have a couple of sensors online by I consider them just for fun not really accurate. I'm holding out when I could get something from Young or Vaisala but even then I don't have a good place to put the sensor and meet the standards. Temperature I could do, but not wind. For example, my peak gusts on my cheap home unit last night were in the 40s. I know some of them were higher than that.

The anemometer will be lucky to gust to 30 in a hurricane lol.
CapturedNature
lol! If it's not snow depths that people quibble about it's wind gusts. This pattern has clearly gotten to most of us. I was thinking the same thing. Can't we just use the Beaufort Scale to estimate winds? I've often used it to gauge wind speeds when you don't have an instrument to measure it. It has nice anecdotal descriptions and the speed range that you're looking at.

You might see 50...lol In winter there's a lot more free air so if we get a good storm, it might not be that far off if it's high enough. I was just kidding and can already see the discussions now about backyard measurements and siting as we revisit the discussion every summer. Nice Now we can weenie your 77 DPs this summer lol. You'd be surprised. You might see 50...lol This morning's 48 was just 1MPH below the all time record for our station which has been online most of the time since 2010. The 49MPH was 2/19/11. I think 45 is the highest I've noted in summertime convection.

I was thinking about ground cover for underneath it. I have to do some landscaping in that part of the yard an either plant more grass seed or mulch the area and plant some flowers or shrubs. Not sure what to do around there.

bobbutts
48mph official gust at CON seems reasonable for this area.. Lots of leaves and stuff blowing around, a few branches down, isolated outages, nothing spectacular. Snowpack is nearly completely gone, just some patchy thin coverage here and there in grassy and woods areas.
powderfreak
Snow has returned. Nice trajectory from Lake Ontario all the way into the Northern Greens...lets see if it can amount to anything. Visibility is 1/2sm to 1sm at the ski resort in snow and wind.

moneypitmike
A nice heavy squall going through now--Ginxy would be proud. Great to have the groudn whtiened again. Actually went into Shelburne Falls--shocked to see how much snow they still have on teh ground there. A couple inches at least with very little in the way of bare spots. Not sure how they managed to do that. 28.9/23 sn+
powderfreak
Good fast flow for snow showers to spread way downstream of the lakes... and probably get some additional orographic help in the Berks and Greens. Hopefully everyone can see at least some flakes fly.
