Baroclinic Zone
Impressive No doubt. Better than Sandy and Irene.
SouthCoastMA
No doubt. Better than Sandy and Irene. Agreed on Sandy. I was living 200 yards from the ocean during Irene so this doesn't compare
OceanStWx
So far 49 mph gust here I suspect we've had similar here, but our wind equipment here never tells the true story. I don't think I've ever seen it top 29 knots. I would say the gust to half the winds at 850 mb are working out just about right though.
Juliancolton
I wonder if we have one more shot at some decent gusts with that line in WCT Still decently gusty out west here in Dutchess County but definitely not as impressive as anything before that line. The old reliable Down Easter anemometer works every time, The one with my weather station is about like the one at GYX, Not much use, It recorded a high of 27.9 mph
Ginx snewx
Poor Kevin must have totally missed out on Sandy... This wasn't even close! That said it ripped last night here. The winds woke me up a bunch of times. Davis at work high gust 43.Saw some medium branches down but nothing spectacular.
Damage In Tolland
What do folks want? there's like 20 or more roads closed with trees on wires. How can buses/kids get thru? This happened a few hours ago in the dark. I'm glad they made the decision.. It's a heavily forested hilly rural town

moneypitmike
Best winds of the event so far are occuring now. Recording 36mph, so it must be at least 45, probably even better than that from the sounds/look of it.

This happened a few hours ago in the dark. I'm glad they made the decision.. It's a heavily forested hilly rural town There's about 30 other similar surrounding towns that don't seem to have nearly the same issues as Tolland does. Just an observation, nothing personal against you.
moneypitmike
How did your pack hold up Mike? It's toast. lots of patches remaining, but we're back to square one. 38.6/
ChrisM
Lines down on the way to uconn caused delays of more than a mile ugh. Also this event basically melted the pond, the ice was 9" thick!!!!!!!

radarman
And Ryan once again.. The valley got shafted. You guys never get good winds in that pit Eh up here the valley did ok. UMass anemometer hit 45 MPH which is pretty impressive. (higher than Sandy) IMBY on the hill it was windy, but definitely less than the stealth wind event we had 2 weeks ago. Mr Torchey
There are numerous issues down here as well, just got an email kids being evacuated to gym at one of the high schools due to roof damage and water coming into the classes.

Also this event basically melted the pond, the ice was 9" thick!!!!!!! That seems almost impossible on the ice, are you sure it's not just a few inch of rain and melt on top? moneypitmike
Frontal passage anyone???? 37.7/36--flakes mixing in???? Hard to tell, but looks like that might be the case.
wxmanmitch
Getting rain with some mangled flakes here as temperatures are crashing, although I don't think meaningful precipitation will last much longer. 37.8° F. Squall line woke me up around 7:30 with good winds, torrential rains, and a nice temperature crash from the mid 50s to upper 30s.
ChrisM
That seems almost impossible on the ice, are you sure it's not just a few inch of rain and melt on top?
