kbos gust to 59 mph

Box Disco:

Strong damaging straight line wind gusts... Low level jet just south of New England continues to strengthen this morning with kokx VAD wind profile indicating 75 knots at 1kft and 95 knots at 2 kft! This anomalous low level jet is resulting in warm temperatures at the surface in the u50s and l60s across the area at 4 am. However this is also yielding a bit of an inversion in the first few thousand feet of the atmosphere. As a result strong winds aloft have not completely translated to the surface. However as the nose of the jet moves across the area between 09z-12z /15z for Cape Cod/ combined with vigorous pressure falls along and just ahead of the approaching cold front...wind gusts of 60-70 miles per hour will become common across the region. In addition...a fine line of low top convection is moving across the lower huds valley and northern New Jersey ahead of the front. Strong but shallow updrafts/downdrafts associated with this convective feature will increase the risk of stronger winds aloft mixing to the surface. Thus High Wind Warning remains posted for the entire region with the greatest risk of damaging winds across CT/Rhode Island and south of the Pike /I-90/ in Massachusetts. Strongest wind so far observed was at mqe...62 knots at 246 am.

Logan leading the wind pack. This is impressive to have 50+kt guts.

Reliving my childhood weenie moments tonight. Growing up on the East Bay in RI most of the big snow events were coastal front disappointments.

But a good southerly LLJ? I used to jack open my bedroom windows and listen to the howl.
