Wow that looks like a gully washer coming on radar... snowpack cancel lol

Damn straight.  I'd hold out a little hope for a light covering remaining if we were just dealing with the temps and dews.  That deluge will put the nail in the coffin.  Still healthy now.  It'll be a different landscape come morning.

AREA FORECAST DISCUSSION

NATIONAL WEATHER SERVICE TAUNTON MA

425 PM EST WED JAN 30 2013

.SYNOPSIS...

STRONG TO DAMAGING WINDS ARE ANTICIPATED LATE TONIGHT INTO MID

MORNING THURSDAY...ALONG WITH A BAND OF HEAVY RAIN SHOWERS. THE

FRONT WILL PUSH ACROSS THE REGION THURSDAY MORNING...BRINGING WITH

MORE WINDY CONDITIONS AND COLDER TEMPERATURES. A COUPLE OF

RELATIVELY FAST MOVING SYSTEMS MAY PRODUCE LIGHT SNOW ON SUNDAY AND

AGAIN ON TUESDAY OF NEXT WEEK.

&&

.NEAR TERM /UNTIL 6 AM THURSDAY MORNING/...

***STRONG TO DAMAGING WINDS ACROSS ALL OF SOUTHERN NEW ENGLAND LATE

TONIGHT INTO MID MORNING THURSDAY***

A POTENT SHORTWAVE AND ASSOCIATED LOW PRESSURE SYSTEM TRACKING TO

OUR WEST WILL HAVE A SIGNIFICANT IMPACT ON OUR WEATHER LATE TONIGHT

INTO MID MORNING THURSDAY. THERE ARE SEVERAL WEATHER HAZARDS WE ARE

CONCERNED ABOUT WITH THE BIG ONE BEING STRONG TO DAMAGING STRAIGHT

LINE WIND GUSTS. WILL GO OVER ALL THE CONCERNS IN THE NEXT FEW

PARAGRAPHS.

1) STRONG DAMAGING STRAIGHT LINE WIND GUSTS:

WE OPTED TO CONVERT ALL HIGH WIND WATCHES OVER TO WARNING FOR LATE

TONIGHT INTO MID MORNING THURSDAY. THE STRONGEST WINDS LOOK TO

OCCUR BETWEEN 2 AM AND 9 AM...WITH 50 TO 60 MPH EXPECTED AND PERHAPS

EVEN A BIT STRONGER IN SOME LOCALES. NOW THERE IS ALWAYS

UNCERTAINTY IN THESE SOUTHERLY LOW LEVEL JET CASES BECAUSE OF THE

STRONG INVERSION AND HOW MUCH WIND WILL BE ABLE TO MIX DOWN. ITS

OFTEN BEST TO BE CONSERVATIVE IN THESE SITUATIONS. HOWEVER...IN

THIS CASE THE LOW LEVEL JET IS SO STRONG WE HAD TO GO WITH A HIGH

WIND WARNING FOR THE ENTIRE REGION. ONE TRICK THAT WILL SOMETIMES

GET YOU IN THE BALLBARK ON WIND GUSTS IS TO LOOK AT THE 850 MB JET

AND TAKE HALF FOR THE MAX WIND GUSTS. IN THIS CASE...THE NAM

INDICATES OVER 100 KNOTS AT THIS LEVEL! HIGHEST CONFIDENCE IN THE

STRONGEST WINDS WILL BE ACROSS INTERIOR RHODE ISLAND/SOUTHEAST

MA...WHERE TEMPS MAY BREAK 60 ALLOWING FOR BETTER MIXING. WOULD NOT

BE SURPRISED FOR SOME OF THESE LOCATIONS TO SEE WIND GUSTS OF 65

MPH. HOWEVER...EVEN IN THE INTERIOR THERE IS A GOOD POTENTIAL FOR A

FEW HOURS OF 50 TO 60 MPH WIND GUSTS ESPECIALLY IF A FINE LINE

DEVELOPS. THE ONE THING TO KEEP IN MIND ABOUT THESE LOW LEVEL JET

CASES IS THAT THE STRONGEST WINDS USUALLY ON LAST 1 TO 3 HOURS IN A

GIVEN LOCATION. HOWEVER...WINDS OF THESE SPEEDS COULD CAUSE

SCATTERED TREE DAMAGE AND POWER OUTAGES SO WE ARE CONCERNED.

Concern to be sure as described.  But, there are "scooter caution flags" hurled all over that.

I wonder if tomorrow's accumulation in the zone forecast is meant to be total rain and not total snow:

Thursday

Cloudy. Patchy fog in the morning. Rain in the morning... then a chance of snow or rain showers in the afternoon. Total snow accumulation of 1 to 3 inches. Breezy with highs in the lower 40s. Temperature falling into the lower 30s in the afternoon. West winds 15 to 25 mph with gusts up to 50 mph. Chance of precipitation 90 percent.

For the Pit's snowpack loss:

THE MAIN PLAYER THOUGH LOOKS TO BE THE FINE LINE WHICH COULD RESULT IN A BAND OF LOCALLY HIGHER WIND GUSTS. THE MODELS ARE IN GOOD AGREEMENT THAT THE HEAVIEST RAIN WILL BE ACROSS OUR FAR WESTERN ZONES...ESPECIALLY THE EAST SLOPES OF THE BERKSHIRES.

The benefit of living in the hills is more snow than the valleys in a lot of events, but on the flip side it also means more rain when it's warm. The mountains are going to wring it out tonight with that sort of low level jet induced orographics and near record PWATS.

No QPF issues tonight unfortunately.
