still stuck in the 40s. 44.9

Probably still have S winds.  With a significant easterly component, those 60s come roaring up Rt 23 and torch your place.

Visibility now under 1/4 mile here in AUG.  Should be a fun drive home; the south side of Mile Hill tends to concentrate fogginess on southerly winds.

Up to 45.2/45 now.  Snow's pretty soft to walk in--lots yet to melt.  But I'm confident it's going to get ugly before anything cool gets here.

cloud deack is raising and thinning in spots...overall brightening...wind is roaring like a freight train and the house is creaking with the gusts

Are you in Medway?  What's with the winds already?  Sure taking there damn time here.

FMH might be a primo spot to get ripped with high winds later tonight...as Phil mentioned earlier, just a mile or three from the water will help out with destabilizing that lower 1000 feet or so.

Temp down to 57 from a brief high of 61.  Winds 30 gusting to 40.I'm atop the terminal moraine near the Woods Hole country club and winds are whipping, especially the last 2 hours.  I am noticing an interesting and almost exact periodicity of gusts at 30 seconds.

Just got back from the beach about a mile away and winds seemed relatively calmer there- maybe 10-15 mph less.  But heavy fog was blowing in off the waters.  Should be a doozy later.

yup, went outside and the clouds at just screaming south to north. Saw some breaks of blue ski where I could see the high level clouds which seem like they are standing still as the llw level clouds go screaming by.

A HIGH WIND WARNING IS ISSUED WHEN SUSTAINED WINDS OF 40 MPH ARE EXPECTED FOR AT LEAST AN HOUR...WITH GUSTS OF 58 MPH OR GREATER AT ANY TIME.

Forecast is for HHW fail.

Tonight: Showers likely this evening...then showers with a slight chance of thunderstorms after midnight. Areas of fog. Locally heavy rainfall possible after midnight. Not as cool with lows in the upper 40s. South winds 15 to 20 mph. Gusts up to 35 mph...increasing to 55 mph after midnight. Chance of rain near 100 percent.

Thursday: Mostly cloudy with rain showers in the morning...then partly sunny in the afternoon. Areas of fog in the morning. Blustery with highs in the lower 50s. Temperature falling into the lower 30s in the afternoon. West winds 15 to 25 mph with gusts up to 50 mph. Chance of rain 90 percent.

46.3/46, high so far of 46.6.  I'm sure that benchmark will get moved soon.

AREA FORECAST DISCUSSION

NATIONAL WEATHER SERVICE TAUNTON MA

425 PM EST WED JAN 30 2013

.SYNOPSIS...

STRONG TO DAMAGING WINDS ARE ANTICIPATED LATE TONIGHT INTO MID

MORNING THURSDAY...ALONG WITH A BAND OF HEAVY RAIN SHOWERS. THE

FRONT WILL PUSH ACROSS THE REGION THURSDAY MORNING...BRINGING WITH

MORE WINDY CONDITIONS AND COLDER TEMPERATURES. A COUPLE OF

RELATIVELY FAST MOVING SYSTEMS MAY PRODUCE LIGHT SNOW ON SUNDAY AND

AGAIN ON TUESDAY OF NEXT WEEK.

&&

.NEAR TERM /UNTIL 6 AM THURSDAY MORNING/...

***STRONG TO DAMAGING WINDS ACROSS ALL OF SOUTHERN NEW ENGLAND LATE

TONIGHT INTO MID MORNING THURSDAY***

A POTENT SHORTWAVE AND ASSOCIATED LOW PRESSURE SYSTEM TRACKING TO

OUR WEST WILL HAVE A SIGNIFICANT IMPACT ON OUR WEATHER LATE TONIGHT

INTO MID MORNING THURSDAY. THERE ARE SEVERAL WEATHER HAZARDS WE ARE

CONCERNED ABOUT WITH THE BIG ONE BEING STRONG TO DAMAGING STRAIGHT

LINE WIND GUSTS. WILL GO OVER ALL THE CONCERNS IN THE NEXT FEW

PARAGRAPHS.

1) STRONG DAMAGING STRAIGHT LINE WIND GUSTS:

WE OPTED TO CONVERT ALL HIGH WIND WATCHES OVER TO WARNING FOR LATE

TONIGHT INTO MID MORNING THURSDAY. THE STRONGEST WINDS LOOK TO

OCCUR BETWEEN 2 AM AND 9 AM...WITH 50 TO 60 MPH EXPECTED AND PERHAPS

EVEN A BIT STRONGER IN SOME LOCALES. NOW THERE IS ALWAYS

UNCERTAINTY IN THESE SOUTHERLY LOW LEVEL JET CASES BECAUSE OF THE

STRONG INVERSION AND HOW MUCH WIND WILL BE ABLE TO MIX DOWN. ITS

OFTEN BEST TO BE CONSERVATIVE IN THESE SITUATIONS. HOWEVER...IN

THIS CASE THE LOW LEVEL JET IS SO STRONG WE HAD TO GO WITH A HIGH

WIND WARNING FOR THE ENTIRE REGION. ONE TRICK THAT WILL SOMETIMES

GET YOU IN THE BALLBARK ON WIND GUSTS IS TO LOOK AT THE 850 MB JET

AND TAKE HALF FOR THE MAX WIND GUSTS. IN THIS CASE...THE NAM

INDICATES OVER 100 KNOTS AT THIS LEVEL! HIGHEST CONFIDENCE IN THE

STRONGEST WINDS WILL BE ACROSS INTERIOR RHODE ISLAND/SOUTHEAST

MA...WHERE TEMPS MAY BREAK 60 ALLOWING FOR BETTER MIXING. WOULD NOT

BE SURPRISED FOR SOME OF THESE LOCATIONS TO SEE WIND GUSTS OF 65

MPH. HOWEVER...EVEN IN THE INTERIOR THERE IS A GOOD POTENTIAL FOR A

FEW HOURS OF 50 TO 60 MPH WIND GUSTS ESPECIALLY IF A FINE LINE

DEVELOPS. THE ONE THING TO KEEP IN MIND ABOUT THESE LOW LEVEL JET

CASES IS THAT THE STRONGEST WINDS USUALLY ON LAST 1 TO 3 HOURS IN A

GIVEN LOCATION. HOWEVER...WINDS OF THESE SPEEDS COULD CAUSE

SCATTERED TREE DAMAGE AND POWER OUTAGES SO WE ARE CONCERNED.
