if memory serves, the DGEX for us looks like what it showed for NE in today's storm in a similar time frame, so that's encouraging <hoping it remains good with this pattern>

Should read DT update from earlier

thanks...being bullish about big snow events here is pretty unrewarding and futile....i think verbatim GFS would drop 2-3" in dc proper....just need a nice thump and temp will drop to 33-34

Watching all the news footage out of NE is tough but if someone said that I could have a 3" snow this week or chance it for door #1 or 2 with the idea that one choice is better than 3" and the other is worse, I take the 3".

It's only weather but wanting more than what the pattern is able to give is psychologically risky.

On the VD storm, I liked the 12z GFS a little better because the L off Hatteras was hugging the coast. Thus, the 18z GFS edged closer to the EURO. I think this run is colder only because the L is further off Hatteras. We need a stronger L off Hatteras to pull in the cold air AND close enough to the coast so the precip doesn't slide off the coast. Thus thread the needle a bit. The current GFS has a tight gradient on the back-end so if it does slide a little to the east, the DC area (points west) get nothing. Overall, I still like the set-up, and will stick with my 2-4 inches starting as rain and changing over to snow in the afternoon.

The hunt is less fun when we know nothing will ever work out....this isn't like pro football where you know you are probably good for 3 or 4 wins even if you suck

A little more fun when Bob bets future posting privileges, his retirement fund, his children's bikes, randy's fund (who has also bet bob's retirement fund), his neighbors' title, and the suggestions he should bet his mother in law as well.

I went into their thread yesterday to wish them luck and mentioned how Leesburg got 34" in the 2/5/10 I knew right then he would report at least 1 more inch than that when the storm was over

Its okay Dave, they got less than us that winter ;) They can never take that away from us... well DCA tries to and is devising a plan with BWI for that winter, but they can't.

I think the chase will be more fun once it is proven that it can actually snow more than an inch here....

the chase is still fun imo.. just not as much from 5 days+ out -- we need a really legit threat within 48 hours.

i think that's part of the reason why some people jokingly put down this hobby, and i do it too.  even if you're a wizards fan, you know you can still get some wins, but around here, you can literally go a whole season without a legitimate snowstorm.  that's what makes it tough.  if we averaged 40" of snow per year, i think people would find this hobby less draining.

:lmao:

I should have trademarked that when I coined it for the Euro. spreaded like wildfire around this place. I need the cash.....because as Bob Chill knows, I'll likely lose my kids' college fund by next week's end.
