Thanks for the concern. I am ok, could be worse. A ton of family stuff going on over the last few weeks.

Hope you're all doing well. Should be back more frequently soon.

:lol::thumbsup:

Looks like we've flipped to a light rain/sleet mix here. It's not snow, that's for sure.

Good to have you back to the A team.

You've got to tell your girl that weather comes first in this relationship, and if there's a snowstorm when she wants to go out - you're on your own baby.

Maybe now we'll get a real snow event in the coming weeks.

The mid level warm layer is pushing in basically from southwest to northeast -- but aligned more N-S than it typically is in our area. So the 850mb 0c line, per spc mesoscale analysis, runs from High Point NJ to Trenton.

Judging by the OBS the warm layer either just above or just below the 800-850mb level is already past that..into Northeast NJ and NYC. We flipped to sleet and freezing rain about an hour ago and I haven't seen a snowflake since.

This is all WAA driven precipitation, though...so as soon as that pushes through we should start to see things become more spotty. Which is lucky for us, because the surface cold is really starting to wane away from the interior and this would become a cold rain event.

It's unusual to see how the 850mb freezing contour is aligned so much N-S, as it's usually much more southwest-northeast:

My temperature is up to 31.0F as the WAA continues to push eastward, so I'm expecting a change to more of a rain/sleet mix soon. Roads look a bit slippery but not terrible here in Southern Westchester. Amazing for all this cold weather, all we've managed is 1.5" of snow in a couple of garbage events. Not very impressive for a week that averaged around -10F. And now, onto the torch...

Interesting how it seemed like things couldn't go wrong in 09-10 and 10-11 when we had a -NAO. Every threat turned into a 6-12" snowstorm. The past two years, we can't get anything right it seems...

If the system was more organized and the precip was steadier and heavier we would have done better. The precip has been spotty at best.

The best thing is the girls who actually really like snow.

It shows how important the -NAO is for snowfall here. The EPO provides the colder than normal temps as we've seen the past 10 days, but the flow remains very progressive w/o a real NATL block, and so northern stream short waves cannot amplify or slow down.

The next couple weeks will feature the addition of a -AO and a more favorable MJO signal, but I'm not seeing any indication of real Greenland blocking like we experienced in 2009-2011. Without the Atlantic on our side, our maximum attainable amounts are probably in the light to moderate range. If we can get a monster PNA amplification, then maybe we could pull of something of larger magnitude.

One could argue that all the "going right" luck has been funnelled into the October 2011 and November 2012 storms, which exhausted it for the rest of the season.  If you believe in that sort of thing :lol:

its 34 here, the roads have been just wet all day ditto for parking lots but I have noticed that the sidewalks are still a bit slick and icy. Even had to do a little salt run before

my front stoop has some ice on it and some ice on my front walk...I picked up about 0.3" of snow...Had some rain and sleet...The sleet looked like hail but wasn't...then some rain and drizzle...
