hawkeye_wx
I wasn't expecting the nw GFS solution to pan out, although it did seem like the temp was holding at 32/33 for a long time late yesterday/overnight, which was a clue. At least we aren't getting jobbed like areas to the east. It's pretty nasty out now with heavy snow and strong wind. It appears locations nw of CR, up toward Waterloo, are in the sweet spot. I may only have another hour of heavy snow. before the drier air moves in from the south.

A-L-E-K
Kudos to the GFS. It laughs in the faces of the meso models. All things considered, not a terrible year for the GFS

hawkeye_wx
Congrats man! Spotter a few miles north of CR just reported 4.2". CR ASOS reporting 1/4 mile S+ at 1317z. No doubt many CR area spotters will send in snow reports above to well above my total. That nearly always happens with these windy storms that are difficult to measure. That 4.2" guy was probably the same guy who sent in 7+ inches for the December storm when I could only measure 4.5".
cyclone77
DVN over to snow and down to 0.5 mile. Already a quick inch of snow near Sherrard just south of the QC. Still all rain here at the moment. Coming down nicely. Picked up 0.15" in the last hour.
daddylonglegs
Looking forward to a nice little storm total. Driving conditions must be horrible.
Luftfeuchtigkeit
0.7" accumulation now with snow still on the light side. Nothing too exciting yet....hopefully those bands to the south will stay together as they move up this way.
wisconsinwx
Milwaukee Timmerman reporting 32/30 and light rain. When will these echoes and deformation zone ever get here? Every single storm it seems we ride the edge these days.

Several spotters have reported over 4" around CR in the last hour. Sounds like you guys are getting it good. All snow here now and quickly whitening up. Dry slot already about here though lolz. turtlehurricane
Madison is back to winter wonderland mode, 25-35 dBZ snow moving through with a temp of 30.6 F. Big flakes coming down, 3/4 mile visibility at MSN. 0.11" liquid equivalent snow so far, but the real good stuff has only just begun.
hawkeye_wx
I just went out and measured a pretty uniform 4.5 inches of snow on hard surfaces(patio, snowboard). Have to be careful when measuring on grass because that adds a good inch of air. Despite the wind, there is not a lot of drifting. It was pretty easy to measure. wisconsinwx
Sleet starting to mix in with the rain here at UWM We have sleet here now as well. Edit: blowing and drifting sleet lol. It's going sideways.

Natester
There were still piles of shoveled snow from the December 20, 2012 snowstorm lingering around before this morning. But yeah, this snow was still the wet type but not as wet as on December 20.
Minnesota Meso
IMO the following models preformed well in depicting the snow for se MN, in order, The Fim model suite, the RGEM, GGEM, GFS and the 24hr Ruc backup.

Think la crosse could hit 6 inches Ripping here as well, huge flakes making everything look like it's covered with lumpy cotton. MSN down to 1/2 mile vis 10 mins ago but it keeps getting heavier. wisconsinwx
Back to rain; this is an accurate map to explain the situation. cyclone77
Snow surprisingly light despite good radar returns. Must still be mixed with a little rain or something. Probably a few tenths so far. Looks like it should rip in Madison for at least the next few hours.

Luftfeuchtigkeit
1.7", 1.0" in the last hour. It's definitely a winter wonderland outside now. 32 degrees, sticking to all the trees, everything's white. The snow took a while to pick up in intensity this morning, but now it's really starting to come down.
cyclone77
Some sleet hitting the window. Guess that explains these crappy rates. Dry slot should be here in less than a half hour. We're gonna finish well under an inch.
