The week before the Thanksgiving snowstorm in 1989, there was a tornado near a Poughkeepsie school that killed 7 students.

Yes there was.  That was because they were in the most vulnerable part of the school at that time, a cafeteria I believe.  You are not suggesting that school children are safer riding around in school buses during a tornado watch with a squall line bearing down on them than remaining within safer parts of school buildings? More of a reaction to that event?  Big time push for severe weather training/recognition came from this for school personnel after that. Reason early dismissal decision was befuddling.

 

At anyrate this one's timing is overnight.

I was just thinking the same thing.  It looks like that squall line will be here in the 4-5pm time frame if it holds together as it is.

That line west of Harrisburg must not be the squall line mentioned in the NWS updates.  The timing mentioned in the update of the Wind Advisory still says 9 PM - 2 AM, so they must be expecting something else to come through later.
